Mattia:  thanks! texturing all this is gonna be an adventure.. i only hope i'll be capable of doing the model justice when it comes to texturing, materials and rendering. An aged look is exactly what i had in mind :) new shiny stuff is boring...

Adrian: :) thank you, fast.. i don't know, i think i'm working pretty slow. I haven't yet got up to maximum speed because it been so many months since i modeled i forgot lotsa things. :D what a cute lil spider hehe

Btw, an update.. i remodeled the steeringwheel now based upon references i found on Google. This should be more accurate to 1950's designs :)

Sorry i'm only posting Modo renderings now but i won't post any Maxwell renderings until ALL the modeling is finished and i'm satisfied with it.

I'll be back shortly with the new rubbertires and rims.

:) yeap that's what i hope it will be Hervé, i hope i'm not spamming this wip section too much now with all my updates all the time. Sorry guys :(

Last one for a while now, i'll try to cut down on the updates postings here.
I gave the car new tires and rims as people on the Modo forum suggested, these new one's feel better and seem to match the models design better. Atleast that's what i think.. :)

Looking great! I like these wheels better.

Maybe you mentioned and I missed it, but are you working from an existing toy?

Hervé: Okies, but i'll still tone down a lot more now on the update frequency. Driveable toy hmm.. that thought struck my mind while modeling this. But i think it will look better as a small handheld toy, it gives me the opportunity for creating some nice closeupshots with this model. :)

Marcello: Thank you  i agree, the new wheels makes it feel and look more realistic. I have no real references for this, it's based upon various old sci-fi movies, racingcars, normal cars, 1950's design in general and old toy design and construction. Having all of those variables i'm simple mixing in what feels like it would work good together. :) as far as i know there's no toy that looks like this.

Hi,

I really like the modeling skill presented. I understand if this is asking to much of your time but I'd like to see how you built the car seat. Did you build each round cushion piece separate then stitch them to the seams.

Thanks,

Thanks Aaron :) no worries about my time, i got all the time in the world :D i'll show you how i modeled the cushions for the seat. It's actually easier than you think.

Cushion modeling overview
Image

Step 1: Start with a cube, split it up evenly so that each as each quad represents a elevated piece of the leather cushion.
Image

Step 2: Select the edge you split and size that up a little bit so your cushion looks softer. Also select the inner edges and bevel these, you will soon know why..
Image

Step 3: Subdivide or meshsmooth your cushion (depending on your app). Select the vertice in the center and move it down slightly. This will be the little button. The four edges nearest the center vertice should you select (so they look like a plus sign) and move them down a little, but not as much as your center vertice which will be your button.
Image

Step 4: Now for the edges in between each of the four elevated humps or whatever they're called :) select one edge at each side of the centeredge. Look at the mesh and you see there are 3 edges running through the middle of the mesh in each axis, pick not the center one but the one to the left and right of the center edge if this makes any sense. Use the size tool to pull these edges closer to eachother.
Image

Step 5: Now for the center vertice, select this one, bevel it a little, select the edges you get from beveling it, move those up a little bit but not to much. bevel again and you should get a shape of a button similar to what i got here in my example below.
Image

Step 6: The outer edge seam can you create if you wish, i didn't do it for my car but in this example i did. It's the same method as for everything else above.. select the edge, give the edge some bevel, select the center edge, move it out slightly, bevel that edge you just moved out and you're done! :)

And this is what it looks like rendered with Modo :)

You guys have to excuse me for the very sloppy tutorial but i tried to get it done fast and not delay it and forget about it later on. Any questions feel free to ask and i'll try to answer.

I've seen your finished result using "another render engine" - looks great, but will there be a Maxwell update soon?

What you saw with the other engine was not a finished result, that was only a finished material for parts of this model. As i'm working on 3 different versions using 3 different engines at the same time (Maxwell, Fryrender and Modo) i'm having a bit of a problem keeping all of them updated at the same time. :( and i also wanted to tone down on my update frequency here to leave more room for other wip threads currently running.

Edit : I think i'm gonna cancel this wip too.. i'm unable to texture it as i want to and the results look horribly bad. It's better i leave this wip alone and let it die than to try to continue working anymore on it.

Thanks all of you who commented on this, i appreciate your feedback.

Don't tone down Max!! :)

So, is this a known issue?
