Here in South China, summer is very hot and the temperature inside a computer room can easily jump to 40 degree Celsius. Is it risky to make intensive rendering (over 12hours) in such warm room? I have a Q6600 with basic ventilation and i just scare to burn it. Also the humidity oscillates between 70% to 90%.

My experience is, that an open computer case helps a lot to keep the temperatures low.

Also other tricks are:

* Undervolting (helps a lot)
* large AIR cooler like Zalman 9700
* liquid metal compound (a german link to buy it)

I got very good results with undervolting + overclocking at 3GHz + big Zalman + liquid metal compound + open case -> extrem silent (cpu fan at lowest speed) and cool system.

Do you use the new Q6600 with G0 stepping? This helps to get lower temps too. My Q6600 G0 are running at 3.4GHz. So, if you don't overclock it to much, than you should get very low temps.

I have to say that you should keep your computer case closed but make sure you have a good airflow through the case so that the air can easily move around from front to back and top to bottom to keep all components cold. Although the air is very warm and the humidity is high you can use a computer there if air can circulate freely without anything stopping it both in your room and in your computer case.

I tried to get my machines so noiseless and fast as possible and my experience is, that's not easy to get the warm air from a closed case to outside. Strong fans are needed and allways, if I opened the case, the temp was a little bit lower, so I let it open. My slave machines lie on the side, so that the open left side show upward. The Zalman blow the warm air ouside trough the backside opening, the low speed super silent power supply is cooling itself. The HDD got an extra low speed low silent fan placed in the near. The master machine work fine since one year.

Thanks for all your feedback...in my case i think i have not too much choice then as i don't really want to change the cooling system (scare to do something wrong). So i guess i will let the air conditioning turn on all night long

My advise would also be to leave the pc-case closed. Otherwise the cooler air would imediately go up in the environment rather than circulate in the box itself.
I'd consider a better quality cooling system also...

Not to mentioned the dust. I'm running a 120mm front intake with dust filter, and my pc's inside is still clean, after what seems like years. You just have to wash the filter every now and then, and boy does it catch dust.

p.s. If you can design a coffee machine, you can replace your heatsink. They usually come with detailed descriptions. 10 minute job if you go slow and careful.
