Hervé: Thanks, and good tip about that sGray thingy. I'll look into it more.

Mihai: Doh! how could i miss that :D thanks a bunch ..guess it's time i too read that manual. Seems like non of us all ever do that

d7: Hehe, you sure managed to create one interesting thread :) it grew way big and fast. Btw, do you need to see more displacement examples ? or are you satisfied now

I always need to see more. Keep them coming. It has been an education.

I am going on holiday to Orlando, Florida tomorrow for 2 weeks, so whilst I am away, could you all view this topic every 5 seconds until I return, so I can beat my arch nemesis Jotero and his pesky thread!

Funny, I had modo open today trying to figure out how to do exactly this to make a river rock displacement map. Can you describe the workflow or point to a tutorial???

Thanx! looking good. Modo is my new favorite application.

Thanks Renato :) but give credits to Luxology for their excellent head mesh.

Daniel: The workflow is easy, model your riverbed and then go up into the Texture menu and move your pointer down to where i says Brushes, enter that Brushes submenu and select Geometry to Brush and once the little window opens make sure you use Heightmap and then pick from which axis you wanna render out a depthmap. That's it! :)

Here's a videotutorial from LuxTV that should cover how you use the Geometry to Brush tool.
