Any features you'd like to see implemented into Maxwell?

A Maxwell plugin for Vue was promised in pre-release, but has never turned up.
Why not? And if not, can we have an apology?

I'd bloody LOVE to have such a plugin: best scenery maker, best renderer...win win!

Sigh :(

Wow! Just had a look at the Vue web site... can't believe I hadn't heard of it before. Looks like some awesome software.

Reading thru the stuff on Vue 6 xStream (one of what looks like 20 different versions of Vue), it seems to be saying that Vue will only work with the renderers built in to Max and Maya and the rest. Specifically, it only works with Mental Ray in Max and Maya.

When I first read your post and went to the Vue site I got all excited, thinking "well, I can use vue + max and just set it to render with maxwell." But I don't think Vue will work with anything but Mental Ray in Max... unless I've missed something... looks like it's up to Vue to let Maxwell in...

as far as a maxwell plug-in for vue, i don't know anything about that. If next limit said they would make one and didn't, that sucks. sorry, i kinda hijacked this post. I got all excited about Vue for a minute.

LOL, no worries, mate :)

I love Vue to bits, back before Maxwell was finally released, Vue and Bryce plugins were said to be going to be made...one reason I bought Maxwell.
Would be a killer combo of scene creator and renderer!

Most of my work in last 3 years has been with Vue. I'm just a hobbyist.

I model in Rhino and do maxwel renders of my designs, but for actual scenes, I use Vue.

Still haven't got round to using Lightwave, bought it...just no time to learn it, sigh.
Also use Mojoworld, which is weird, but fun ;)

Vue -> Obj -> Maxwell, doesn't work?
You can have the vue models, but it is impossible to have the environment of Vue, volumetrics etc...

exactly...

Vue's spectral engine is amazing for clouds.
Must be some way to marry them...sigh.
What a combo it would be, instancing, landscapes, skies...Maxwell renderer  Muhaha!

Why not? It was advertised as a future item for Maxwell back in Alpha.

You have any idea the amount of folk who still use Bryce? ;)

A Vue plugin was mentioned in the early days of Maxwell but I think it's unlikely to ever materialise. many people are reporting problems when using Vue plugins in their modelling software. Can you imagine Maxwell's rendering time where extensive vegetation is being used - 100 years per frame. A nice idea but compositing seems the better option for a Vue/ Maxwell combo.

Next Limits' pre release info' for Maxwell was, to put it mildly, less than accurate.

But why?
I mean, even Maxwell beta, was the best renderer ever for that time... There was no reason to lie about that, I guess they somehow found out that there was no CPU power (even now) for this...

Today I tried Vue and I think it's a very great piece of software.
A Vue plugin for Maxwell will be great indeed, and I think it will be possible in the near future if I can beleave the stories about Maxwell 1.7.

The plants and trees in Vue are instances, thats why you can place hundreds of them so easily. Displacement is also used in Vue and in the feature Maxwell 1.7 will have a sky simulator, that's the most populair argument for a Vue plugin.

Seems the fastest rendering option is to composite images together. I understand Maxwell does support instances very good but at a price for high poly objects - RENDER TIME! Imagine how long renders would be with extensive use of Vues' eco system.

Looking back to when Maxwell was at alpha stage did Vue in fact have a useable eco system?

Vue had instances with Vue5 infinite which was what, March 2005??

Not if you use Xstream version. What is amazing is that the compositing is automatically done while rendering...the scene becomes hhybrid and then while Vue will calculate for example atmosphere and plants, the main subject will be computed by the host application and interact with Vue elements (reflections, shadows...)

Anyway, i've been dreaming a lot of this combo, since i still have to use them separately, and this became even more dramatically true since when i switched from Lightwave to Modo and begun using Maxwell as the main app for the final output...no more cloning objects locked for export (ops!)...no more fake reflections on windows...aaaah!

A plugin for Vue would be cool to mix the scenes that way, but I don't know if the compatibility should be done by Next Limit or by E-on.

So, is this a known issue?

Thanks a lot for your response, I will update and […]

did you tried luxCore?
