My office-style chairs are all hand-me-downs, and I never thought much of it. They seem to do the job well enough. Still, seeing the thread inquiring about meshes of office chairs got me thinking...

Is a chair pretty much just a chair, or do some of the enhancements and attention to detail in some unique models make a big difference? Do any of you swear by a certain company/model chair for your hours-on-end sitting to the point that you'll always sit in the same seat if you have any say in the matter? Links and pics please! By the end of this, I'm hoping to know what the best chairs in the world are!

The problem with chairs is that you don't really know how it'll workout till you've used it for awhile --- despite the claims of how ergonomic it may be. Different body types, .. you know?

As far as I'm concerned, ..the world doesn't need one more damn chair designed and added to the already dizzying array of choices present. It's really quite ridiculous with thousands and thousands and thousands of the same old hideous, slick and plain "computer" chairs being churned out year after year . By the way, ..I'm ranting if you can't tell .... I also have a toothbrush design rant. I mean, .. how is it possible that something so basic can be redesigned so so so many times ?? To me, .. there's only so much they can do with the bristles, .. so they just end up making the handle uglier and uglier. Same with chairs. If you ever look at some of these chairs, .. there's more handles, knobs, dials, sliders etc ..etc.. than the cockpit of an Indy car. It's a little embarssing I think -- It's like your the pilot of your desk and being a desk pilot is not cool. Personally, .. the italian designs are the highest quality and best design --- there, .. you see? --it's been done, .. the wheel has been designed, ..it's not getting any better. We need to move on. No more chair designs please. Let's all move forward with using our combined intellectual efforts on higher pursuits.

New Electronic Middle-Age... we stop to move basically.. no need to travel.. no cars.. no planes.. no mobylettes...

Everybody uses a PowerPlate..

food starts to be of highest importance.. unlike the game it is now..

We grow teeth again when we loose some... a bit like sharks.. hehe

and no more toothbrushes.. a small spray into your mouth after eating.. would remove plaque, food debris, and bad odor...

The funny thing is ... a while ago I was shopping for chairs ... a lot of shopping. Tested dozens and dozens and drove many miles to various dealers. Tested cheap chairs and expensive ones (over $1000 etc) ... it was like shopping for a car, with brochures and what not ...

... bottom line the most comfortable was one I found in Staples with a knee tilt mechanism ...

... what the heck.

Hervé: Hasn't food always been the highest importance -- ? It just doesn't seem important if you have it abundantly. Currently in Haiti, .. a popular thing to eat is a patty made from dirt mixed with oil and sugar.

Hands-down, no contest, the Herman Miller Aeron chair. Every single major studio and post facility in town uses nothing else for those of us that have to sit on our asses for literally days at a time sometimes. I have never had a picosecond's fatigue from sitting in them.

after spending a decade in standard ikea models, i allowed myself one of these...
very comfortable indeed,.. but in winter i freeze my a*s off, way too much cold wind blowing through that mesh fabric..
.. so all the funky design gets hidden under a 4€ fleece blanket.... which i got at... ikea

I recommend wearing clothes whilst working though, Polynurb...

Fancy one of those chairs myself. Although here in Manchester we do have a lot of cold months in the year.

@ Chris... food is important.. always was.. but the importance of respecting the food is not there anymore...

anyway.. a chair is ok.. but as we spend so much time in our offices, I suggest one of these.. really good...

Aeron's without question are the best I've used - all I have had for the last 7 or 8 years I think.
