+1 what kami said. :)

I moved to the Orkney Islands in 2003, London life was not really 'doing it for me' anymore...........more space here, nice people, good food, only two coppers... 8) ....but low salaries.
There was no local market for my skillset, so I had to start from scratch pretty much........but you can't have everything!

Times are hard everywhere maybe...........rising food costs, oil market in frenzy, UK economy heading for a 'soiled pants' scenario too I should think, maybe better to ride-out the storm in familiar surroundings.......the States is an enormous market, could you not re-locate within the U.S for better prospects waqurto?

I agree that economy should not be the main/only reason for relocating, but it is important to find an interesting job - and I believ this is easier in a "booming" economy. I moved from Norway to Berlin and lived there 5 years and worked as an architect in a german office. The main reason for moving was that it was impossible to find a job for an newly graduated architect in Norway, but lots of work in Berlin. AND of course because I considered Berlin to be an interesting place to live. The years in Berlin where great, and I have never regretted living there for a period of time.

Now times have changed, I've been back in Oslo for quite a few years. It is a lot going on in the building industry, and there is hardly any unemployment at all. I am partner in the Arch. firm I started with a couple of friends some years ago, and our biggest problem is that it's hard to find people to hire (architects). Yesterday I presented the plans for the tallest building in Oslo at a press conference, - just as an example of whats going on in this city. But of course we know that nothing will last for ever... (Except my skyscraper :) )

Wow guys!! thank you for your tips and advices. I did not born on USA I am originally from south America and move to USA 20 years ago. My main motive is not only economic, but cultural, and social as well. I understand the American standards of living and I know that will difficult to replicate at anywhere in the world. Can someone talk about spain a little? How is spain for living and work? I am an architect and I interest in the construction industry point of view.

Not good times for the building sector in Spain lately, at least in housing.
