hello

sorry, this is probably a really dumb question...
I'm trying to get a displacement map out of maxwells z-buffer
feature.

scenario: I have an object that has a depth of 40 that I would
like to transfer into a displacement map. the camera is 600 away
from that object. as I understand, I would have to use the values
of 560 and 600 for min and max values.

but if I do that, all I get is a plain white image of that object without
weight info. do I not understand how this works?

I'm very glad if someone could help me with that, deadlines are approacing... :)

If the camera is at 600, that should be minimum distance...so z-buffer should range between 600 and 640....i think

yves: Probably well past your deadline but where are you setting the z values? I use Cinema4D and its Maxwell plugin doesn't transfer correct z values to Maxwell Render. So, when Maxwell fires up I stop the render and input the values there. Z values of 0/100 are a good start for the oversize scale I model at.

Does Z depth even work in 3D studio?

I put in all the right values, but its still rendering everything as white, no gradient. I've done Z depth a hundred times before with other renderers. Please tell me if its broken for the 1.7x plugin.
