Yes.. for quite some time now i been in a bad creative dryspell and i'm trying to get outta it asap so i can get back to modeling, rendering and hopefully working again.

Question is, what do you people do to get outta these nasty situations ?

Heh, outside of my work I have dried up too Max.

Inspiration usually hits me though after trolling through the various 3d forums.

I've jumped back on the displacement bandwagon since seeing the rope and steel wire tests, which has helped to keep the creative juices flowing.

And a look back through past projects keeps me reminded that I was going to go back to that job when the new feature came out. Helps keep old work recycled too.

I sympathise though mate, I hate the dry spells.

Oww that's bad news Tim, so that's why we haven't seen anything from you in a long time on here i do hope you find your inspiration soon again because we need to see your creations on this forum.

Checking forums, hm yes i tried that. Didn't come up with much but getting envious of seeing everyone else being so creative hehe
Displacements, sure that's always something. But to be honest i think most of what needs to get done has been done by now. The real urgent demands in displaced materials and the cool displaced rendering examples already been taken care of, now there's not a whole lot left to do..

I tried starting up the programs to see if anything would happen but noo, all i do is end up sitting there looking at the interface and then shutting it down a few minutes later. It feels ..boring somehow, and i been flipping through catalogs such as the IKEA catalog and many others to see if anything in them needs to be modeled but nahh.

Thanks Tim, let's hope both of us finds a way to get outta this hell filled with no creativity.

Well if all else fails mate, check out some of the concept artists and their profferred work for peps like you and me to model.

You can usually find something on there to model, if nothing else I hope it will give you some inspiration.

Happens every now and then unfortunatly.

Something that usually help me is to go through a lot of images like these:

I realize it´s not for everyone, but perhaps you can pick up something that can boost the inspiration.

Another helper is to go through and start organizing models and scenes.
Usually i get stuck with one of these and end up with a new scene.

Enter some 3D challenge, practice on the drawing skills, try combining both.

Just a few tips here.

Tim: Nice site that one, lotsa great looking works on there. Thanks for the link i'll dig through it now. I haven't seen any competitions of any kind now which i can jump in on. It's pretty dead everywhere now on the net..

Rochr: Thanks, i'll look through those links to see what they have to offer. At the moment it doesn't really matter what it is.. modeling and rendering a hammer would probably be ok.

Hervé: Good to know music is one inspirational source you use, i'll try that and see if it can do anything. Those old movies :O mm.. but i'm trying to get cash so i can go and watch the new Indiana Jones movie this week which is why i wanna work now.

Try something completely unrelated to your main discipline, but still within the realms of 3D. For instance, I got tired of industrial design a while back, so I spent a couple of months playing around with character animation in Blender. It was enough to keep the interest going and recapture a little of the pure fun of this kind of work.

I try to reduce the sensory overload of my everyday life.
Too much crap coming in, seems to log jam stuff trying to get out.
So my default kick start is often nature related. Some lazy outside time. Garden, woods, parks, beach, arboretum, etc. Just relax and take it in.
Or I dive into a museum show to see really good stuff that is unrelated to my work. Not looking for inspiration. Just looking at something different.
I''ll change my sleep cycle. Get up earlier or later. Toss in some new foods. Chocolate covered pear with coffee (none which do I indulge in regularly). Then go look at some cool museum stuff.
The last thing I look at is anything computer generated.
