Please post here anything else (not relating to Maxwell technical matters)

hmm... autobracketing would be so cool... it's just so much faster . click and shoot all five shots at once... i don't know what these guys were thinking !

* * *

have you ever made super-hires panos with a telephoto ? this must be fun ! :)

about the shooting itself.
basically i will want to shoot in manual mode. so i'd check the values in automatic mode to have a hint what good settings are.
back in M, i'd set these values and go, but there are more settings i need to lock. white balance ? aperture of the fisheye itself ? what are the important other settings that give me a homogenous exposure on all images (especially at the shots directly against sun)

Set manual everything! With the Sigma 8mm set the aperture to f8 and focus to about 90cm. When shooting in very bright sunlight get some ND gelatin filters for the lens (there is a holder on the back of the lens).

The highest resolution hdr I've shot is about 11300*5650 with 5 brackets 2 stops apart. On my machine Photoshop/Photomatix craps out due to memory issues if I go any bigger.

Maxwell needs high resolution hdr for good reflections/background for illumination I shrink the hdr right down with and add a bit of blur.

if you'd go for a new cam tomorrow... would you go for one with live-view on the display ?

just took a look at the prices of D200 and D300 ... :cry:

I have the Agno's MrotatorCP... pretty nice, But I always end up taking 6 pics instead of 3

3 is too little to stitch and if it's not perfectly align you might end up losing the whole "shot"

@ Leo:

you create just panos or also .hdr images ?

* * *

hehe... i'd be nowhere without you, BB !

yesterday i've seen a nikon ad on tv, i guess it was one with ashton kutcher ... right at the end they said something like:
«or of course our fantastic D300» ... with a sweet image of it...

it haunts me ... :)

* * *

i tried hugin... since it's free and can stitch .hdr images (workflow only with markers since one guy has the copyright on automatic matching images)

i tried with your images, but i got some messy edges.

for my work in school here i will need to make three .hdr images, so i'll give hugin a shot on making the panos.
800 $ is still a little much for me (stitcher unlimited).

i'll say when i'm stuck and i'd need help.

* * *

to keep you informed:

i went for a manfrotto tripod, the flm fb60 and the nikon 8mm and the remote release. plus a lens cleaner set :P .. so i have to wait until all stuff is here.
i mounted the NN on my 15$ tripod, but no chance. it's bendy like hell and will not stay horizontal in any case...

wish me luck ... !

I bought and use PT Gui pro. It's not the easiest thing in the world to learn but it's not that bad, and it works quite well. It's more aroudn $100 if I remember correctly. You may want to give that one a try - I think there's a demo.

that seems cool:

http://www.ptgui.com/hdrtutorial.html
PTGui Pro provides extensive support for HDR imaging:
-Stitching bracketed exposures into an HDR panorama
-Stitching HDR source images into an HDR panorama
-Built in tone mapper, to create displayable images from an HDR panorama
-Exposure fusion of bracketed exposures straight into a tone mapped panorama
-Supports the following HDR file formats: 32 bit floating point TIFF, 32 bit PSD and PSB (for output only), OpenEXR (.exr) and Radiance (.hdr)
yikes !

I actually don't use it to stitch hdrs, I merge them in Pshop or Photomatix or whatever and then stitch them into panoramas using PTGui. It has a learning curve either way, but it's not $800+ either :)
