Hi guys,

Can you tell me how to adjust the camera on this shot? the ring is so small, that it is hard to get the focal distance right. Now that the distance is correct, I can't get the depth of field to work. Please give me any other crits that can help me make this better. Thanks!

And make shure that your scale is correct!

For jewellery, because the items are so small, the camera is so close to the model and there isn't a macro lens in Maxwell, I sometimes take the f-stop really high (f32 or more) to get enough DOF. I think I even went to 64 once! Don't forget to 'lower' the shutter speed (i.e. make time twice as long) every time you raise the f-stop by one step. e.g. if f22 needs 1 second, f32 will need 2 seconds and f45 will need 4 seconds to achieve the same level of light exposure.

The f-stop changes as a power of root two, so they are;

1
1.4
2
2.8
4
5.6
8
11
16
22
32
45
64
90
128
...

although real world value usually only range from 1.4 to 32.

Hey guys,

The Fstop really works well! I was just doing a test out of Sketchup with a 3d warehouse model, but now I'm going big and I am going to create a whole case of jewelry. :P

So, is this a known issue?
