Let me say it this way ....... My machine is 8 cores at 2.33 and it's a joy. So, ..you can predict your own experience. lol..

Plus -- your processors have 4mb larger L2 caches. ;)

but wait are you getting 2 of those procs... ie

=make sure you are getting a dual quad....

also what about the op system... a 64 bit system will get you further.in regards to how much ram you can stick in there...

I have a fight on my hands now, yet again with the powers that be!

It only has one Quad in it it seems!

Also I can't have a 64 bit system as it messes up our antivirus software I have been told.

Just in from the IT dept...

I could swap the Intel Xeon E5440 (2.83GHZ, 1333Mhz, 2x6MB,Quad Core) for Dual Intel Xeon E5420 (2.50GHZ, 1333Mhz, 2x6MB,Quad Core) if you want?

That's not bad -- I'd take it. Sucks about X64.

I think it is the best offer I will get from my company to be honest!

Unless by the time I get into to work tomorrow, somebody has something else to say, I think this is the one for me.

That 32 bit thing is a definite concern. You are ordering a Ferrari but it only comes with 2 tires...
I'd fight hard for that.

But if you flip that switch, other parts come flying off...

(Ok, I think we've taken the Ferrari metaphor as far as it needs to go.)
