Maximus3D wrote:Thanks for the tips and suggestions Micha and Bubba, i tried it all and couldn't get it to work. However i got some excellent help from e3D or Neil Evans as his real name is whom with his renderfarm was able to render this exactly as i wanted it and very fast too. :)

Here's the final result, it's now delivered and the client is very satisfied. :) (it's watermarked with my name)

Bubba: Yes that's rendered and unfortunately i had to use the competition's toonrenderer for this. I don't have mental ray or anything else so this was the only tool at hand unless i traced the lines off the screen with pen and paper. :D

Nico: Thanks! nope it's not Penguin but i wish i had the new 2.0 version (it looks very powerful). This is done with Maxwell's closest competitor, sorry but i had no choice for this.

Leo: :D thanks hehe that been the plan all along now, i found soem real nice 8gb of ram modules for about 200 euro i can stuff my machine with, but gotta wait until next week when the cash arrives. That's the worst pain of all.. the loooong wait.

Top quality Max! Thanks for the compliment earlier! - but I have to say if it wasn't for your critic of more detail my modelling quality wouldn't of been that good!

Sidenote: this kind of outline rendering can be direct done at Rhino per AIR plugin from www.sitexgraphics.com - a very RAM friendly render engine for classical raytraced rendering until outline/cartoon.
AIR create cleaner, smoother outlines than Penguin. It support NURBS rendering and many other nice features for only 450,- $. So, in my eyes, AIR is a better solution than buy the old Flamingo + Penguin.

Teabag: Thank you :) i think you deserve such a compliment, the models you build now have a outstanding quality and level of perfection i like to see.

Hehe if you say so then i'm glad i gave you the critic you obviously needed to hear because if it helped you improve your work that much you made good use of those comments. :) that's how an artist should interpet criticism and not in a negative way like some certain others do..

Micha: Yeap you're absolutely right about that, it could have been done both faster and probably better with something like Air or Penguin. However i don't have any of those tools so i had to use what was in my toolbox and that was either Maxwell or Fry and since Maxwell can't produce toonrenderings (yet) i had to use Fry for this. Sad but true..

I read a lot about Penguin 2.0, the new version. It looks great and would be a very handy tool for technical/artistical renderings of Rhino models. Another nice thing is Sketch&Toon in C4D for this type of stuff, but then you need to export your nurbs as obj via Moi to load it into C4D.
