I also upgraded to x64 a month ago;

I can confirm PDF to work and crazy bump works smooth too. (running FireGL drivers)

I tried to find the limits and It actually successfully processed 6k maps!

Rhino runs fine , too. (with all plugins that I used in xp32)

Generally it pays to switch if you need to use more ram, as xp64 is not faster
than xp32, actually my machine is a bit slower in maxwell under 64 bit, but that could be memory-controller/motherboard related.
But trust me, two days after you have been running x64 with 4gb.. you will want 8!

Micha ....... which firewall did you end up using with XP64 ? ...you know, .. free-style. :)

I run nod32 and won't ever buy mcafee or norton again. No problems, light, updates daily with downloads so light I don't even know it's downloading until its updated. Firewalls are a different issue, I have yet to see a good one, nevermind a free one for x64.

I miss the days of tiny personal firewall, which became kerio, and now it's completely different and bloated. I currently use the Nvidia Firewall which comes with my motherboard's Nvidia chipset. Reviews say it's buggy, but it's better than all the alternatives I've tried, and I haven't really noticed any issues with it.

Maximus3D wrote:one more thing.. i made the virtual imagefile 8gb for this installation and it wasn't enough, XP64 must be massive once installed and updated.
I can´t remember exactly how large it was, but if i recall, it wasn´t that much larger than XP32.
Microsoft recommends a minimum 6 GB for the partition, so obviously it´s less than that.

Regarding the support for XP, MS were supposed to stop supporting it in january this year, but have prolonged that for who knows how long, because of the massive complaints they´ve had regarding Vista.
I doubt that Vista will last long either though. They´re already diskussing the release of Windows7 in just a year or two.
I´m probably not the only one finding that suspiciously quick. If Vista is so good, why are they rushing it...

I use the AVG complete solution for firewall, virus ...

My Acrobat 3D show me version 7. Since I don't use it often, 300,- € upgrade price is quite a lot for a PDF printer. I use one of the free PDF printers like CutePDFWriter oder PDFCreator.

Sidenote: for showing virtual realities (QTVR mov files) I use the free DevalVR viewer.

An other XP64 driver problem was, that WD MyBook external HDD dosn't supported XP64, but I changed it back to my dealer without problems. So, better ask for XP64 support befor buying a device.

Here I read, that the support for XP home will get an extended support until 2014. I don't know what it mean for XP64. But I know, it works great now and my projects must be done now.

polynurb: Good that Rhino works in XP64, but it will most likely be limited to 4gb ram, or is 2gb still the limit because its' a 32bit application ? the switch to XP64 (or Vista64) would be only to benefit from the increased access to ram so i can build more complex models and render at higher resolutions using more detailed materials with more textures and such things. I'm so tired of the limitations you get with 2gb ram, i want the freedom that 8gb offers! :)

Strange to hear your 64bit is slower than your 32bit installation, i would have expected about 10-15% increased speed in 64bit. But maybe not..

Rochr: Hm i see, maybe it's because i got it running here now in VMWare that it requires a bit more hdd space than usual. Could be.. from what i can see this installation won't be happy until it has a 10-12gb partition to play on.

I guess time will tell how long each of these OS:s lasts..

Any of you guys tried this utility in XP64/Vista64 on your 32bit applications ?

Even in XP 64 Rhino V4 still hits a wall as it closes in on 2 gigs useage. This is a well known limitation. Meshing, offsetting, rendering, booleans and other heavy lifting operations sometimes still crash for me.
It helps to empy the Undo box, as this frees up more RAM. Sometimes half a gig, which can really help out.

maybe you can use a compatible driver...

Recommended drivers for Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
The products listed in the following table are not supported for use with Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition; however, limited printing functionality may still be possible using the mini-driver of a compatible product. When using a compatible mini-driver, some of the features provided by the driver may not be available such as automatic two-sided printing, accessory tray selection, borderless printing, wide-format printing, etc.

Rhino 4 and XP64: my experience is, at XP32 Rhino crash at 1.6GB RAM usage. XP64 allow much more RAM usage. If 4GB RAM are installed, than Rhino crash at 3.2GB and if 5GB RAM or more are installed, than the limit is approx. 3.6GB. I use 8GB, that allow me to use several Rhino tasks and large models at the same time.

I try it and find no difference at Rhino 4 between patched and unpatched. It seems to be, this large RAM access is implemented per default. But big surprise at the old Rhino v3 - befor crash at 1.6..1.8GB and now crash at 3.9GB. Simple solution for Rhino v3.
