I pretty much get my inspiration from everywhere. It may be a movie, some machine part, construction site, nature etc etc.
I also frequently go trough pages such as abandoned-places.com and similar.
I don´t like to copy something right off, but i pick up a piece here and there and try to combine them into locations that clearly doesn´t or can´t exist, but still have some elements that is recognizable from everyday life. At least for the most part.
I use very rough sketches for some parts, but most of the stuff is done directly in 3D. Guess this method has its ups and downs. If i´ve already gone through the modeling process in my head i can finish up a scene pretty fast, but i can just as well waste hours on experimenting with shapes only to find out that they don´t fit in the scene.
