Tyrone,

I think you are probably right, or at least I have sustpected so for a while. If you know what you are doing in MoGraph, and lot of this can be done, but Bentley's Microstation is more CAD based and better suited to extract the information for purposes other than just visual representation.

I myself don't quite know what the hell I am doing in MoGraph yet, but if you are strong at it I'd be very curious of anything you can come up with in this area.

Cheers,

are there really solid commands available that create intersection lines ?

could you explain the rules system ? how can a user define geometric rules or dependencies ?

is it for example possible to get curves with the shortest disctance between shaped surfaces?

any hints or links for newbies? i had a fast tutorial once months ago but looked very complex at the time... i would like to give it another try but would like to know if there's some basic material out there to start off? Thanks

Since I'm a newbie myself I dont have that much info for you guys.
But the GC user forum us very useful, there are components and tutorials there to download. http://www.gcuser.com

Except from that I can tip about the SmartGeometry conferance in frankfurt:

http://www.smartgeometry2008.com/index.asp

I won't attend there though, but I'll visit the Bentley Vinter Conferance in London 27-29 Feb: http://www.bentleyuser.org/FeatureDetai ... tentID=174

Deadalvs, my first impression of GC is that almost everything is possible, it all has to do with the skills of the user.

What you do is that you set up a bunch of variables, that you use when you specify the look of an object if you want... You can also use static values of course. Its also very programming-like, because when you've built your model of for example a facade, all parts in the facade depends on another part.. That makes it very easy to adjust the look of the complete facade.

okay. question... again.. :)

imagine a tesselated terrain built from points or locators or control points.
the surfaces depend on the points.

is it possible to get the automated contour lines at each meter height that update realtime when moving one of the points ?

would that have to be scripted ?

I think that I understand your question and I think I can answer yes :)

BUT that kind of stuff is much more easyer to do with for example Bentley Inroads, the road/terrain software application to Microstation.

I think I will use GC in another way... to do things like this:

A couple of people i know at the AA [london] done some fantastic projects with it... the workshops were quite good but being unable to follow it properly did not help me that much.... now once people get into this they can do some amazing work... can't wait for the proper commercial release with a more user friendly interface....

but not sure what the future holds given that the 'creator' jumped ship to autodesk....

Are you an expert on Generative Components by now Patrik? Do you have any more samples?

I just started to learn yesterday, very interesting and heavy stuff...

So, is this a known issue?
