Please post here anything else (not relating to Maxwell technical matters)

really kerkythera isnt that fancy at all in quality

and PLEASE NO BIASED MAXWELL

i want maxwell to be physical not biased( for biased things vray is best already). the true power and amazing quality you get only in maxwell is due its physicalness and unbiasedness!

cheers

Just a thought: if we consider a noisy image as something biased we can say that Maxwell starts biased and converges to unbiased.

If just the biased stage were more usable... (interpolated noise or something like that)

The deal is...

Kerkythea sucks. Seriously the image gallery is very poor. BUT, they do have cool features that could spark some ideas to NL development team. And LOTS of people are asking for a Blender interface. And it has one of the best "features", it is free! Great job to Kerkythea team!

So here you have it. It is no MR but we can't discard it. It is indeed a great piece of software. Some Interesting features and The Blender integration adds something to be desired in MR.

Competition catches up really quickly so it keeps our beloved NL programming team on the great stress level that we all like. :o)

Caffeine and more caffeine for you guys!

Cheers!

OK, once again, to make it clear....

I DON'T want biased Maxwell.... I want biased renderings with Maxwell. That can be translated as interpolation for noise as already said, or a simple checkbox that sais..." Nice render in 4-5 hours" not 10 minutes....
After all, even the choise of rendering caustics or not, is a kind of biased decision.... Caustics are there or not, we don't decide.

Why? Because we have deadlines...

Why? Because no matter what I give to my clients (architectural renderings) they can't tell the difference between the top quality (Maxwell) and the very good quality.

Why? Because we will need less CPU power and less time for test renders and with only one scene and mats setup.

Anyway, no matter what you think of Kerkythea, there are some things as markps said, that we got to have.....

1. Instances brush
2. HDR preview
3. Fast material previews....

Also, for a free app, it is great.

Yes, that too!
If you have MAX, there is a useful trick with the mat. editor where you can render a procedural to a hi-res image and use this as texture for Maxwell.

Just messing around getting used to the Solidworks interface... saw the reference image on the Kerkythea site...

Maxwell (quick)...

EDIT: Here's the Solidworks scene. No facets on the models, just fillets... The glass is "high quality" (quick MXM using the wizard). I don't feel that it's unfair using a high quality glass; I'm sure the Kerk render used the highest it can......

Not picking a fight... just not anything we didn't already know

It would be nice if there was a photo of the actual objects. The Maxwell pic looks like there are surfaces (facets, etc.) reflecting/refracting light that cannot actually exist. There is just too much. I am no crystal expert but I do have doubts.

It is probably me.

Facets or not, the images are a day and night difference.

Maxwell looks great (as expected) but I have to agree with leoA4D, there is something strange here....

Being better than Kerkythea doesn't make Kerkythea bad.... or if you prefer, being worse than Maxwell doesn't make Kerkythea bad...after all, nothing is like Maxwell

Just to add to that wishlist .... I liked the way Kerkythea makes alpha images... You select an object and you get the alpha image of the object...
Or you select everything and you get an alpha image of the scene. (Fast)

I've edited my post above with screen grabs out of Solidworks for the scene. You're correct; the models aren't "apples to apples"; as I said, I was just messing about. I don't know the added geometry makes all that much difference to the overall scene. And frankly, it's not even a good Maxwell demonstration; it still looks like a "render". I didn't spend that much time setting it all up, I'm really just trying to get used to the SW-MX interface...

lol I was about to say the same thing.
None of the renders there look hot. Mid average.
