If you're an industrial designer then stay away from poly modelling software. You won't find a single manufacturing process that uses poly modeling for anything other than basic visualization (if at all). These days, industrial designers are more than just visualization artists, but are often required to give the engineers and manufacturing plant actual usable data for making prototypes. This requires engineering data to set tolerances, which poly modellers are incapable of providing. I'm in the industrial design field, but my clients get an IGES, STEP, Rhino, or Solidworks file, along with my jpeg renders of the product for any project I work on. Usually, their engineers review the model and make necessary changes for manufacture, but in general the file I provide is used directly in the manufacturing process. These days, an industrial designer has to provide these services to remain competetive in the market. Stick with Rhino, or maybe try Solidworks, PRO/E, or Studio Tools as these are the standard in design for manufacture.
