The projector behavior is broken in 1.6. Textures now get squished and scaled to fit the part, rather than staying in their native aspect ratio. Rotating cubic projectors also does not work right anymore. This is (another) show stopper for me, as I have to do all my texturing in Studio.

Screenshot from 1.5. I use all cubic projectors. Everything maintains the correct 1:1 aspect ratio, and rotates correctly by changing one rotation parameter to 90:

Screenshot from 1.6. Everything is squished out of its correct aspect ratio, and is impossible to rotate into the correct orientation:

I'm using OSX.

It is a problem already spotted and is beeing fixed (i hope...). The cubic projector has problems.
I have experienced the same bug and the only solution is to map in 1.5. I set two folders, one containing the 1.5 version of mxcl, mxst, mxed and Libs and the other containing 1.6 versions.
You can then put in and out these files into the maxwell folder, and it will run indifferently 1.5 and 1.6 version. Just keep in mind that 1.6 scenes are not back-compatibile with 1.5. What you could do then is to map with 1.5 and then, when you are finished, substitute the files and do the lighting and scene setting part with 1.6.
When you will open your 1.5 files in 1.6 you will see that the projectors are all set to locked, even if you edited them as cubic. Do not worry, the mapping actually is preserved.
Last, but not least, the materials seem to be cross-compatibile. Hope this helps, since i guess there is no other way to handle mapping from within studio.

Thanks. That is exactly what I've been doing: using 1.5 Studio for most work, then moving it to 1.6 to render or to add things like displacement that can't be done in 1.5.
