Dear MX-Next Limit Team,

I've read the posting under 64-bit/leopard (above), but, honestly didn't quite understand it. My question is simple: Maxwell is mission-critical for me. Do I wait to upgrade to Leopard? My instinct is to wait - I was not planning to be in the "first wave" but would like to upgrade soon.

So - to the wizards at NL - What are your plans for upgrading MX? And, does the existing 1.5.1 work with Leopard? Also, I use the sketchup plugin. Have you been able to test this route? Until I know that both will work with Leopard I'll probably have to hold back.

Please advise and best wishes from Berlin.

Yes, existing maxwell 1.5.1 is compatible with Leopard (at least with the last Leopard build available to developers). We have been testing maxwell against all the betas of Leopard since it was available to developers.

Anyway if the computer is mission critical for you, changing the OS in the "very first wave" sounds a bit dangerous, even when Apple usually releases their OS's without much problems I think it's better to wait and see what other users are experiencing.

Dear Nachob,

Thanks for that. Much appreciated. I have been thinking to wait in fact and will do so, probably until late-novemberish. It seems you really need a fat external drive anyway for "timemachine".

Many of us would appreciate it very much if you could do a couple of tests when it does come out - I'm sure there is a box around you could upgrade and test at NL, non? As you have been testing it already you probably are already planning to keep us advised with an announcement on this forum...

Overall, it is great to know that you (in the plural and also you yourself nachold) are keeping out an eye to help out us mac-ies. I'm also hoping that the next version gets better with network rendering (always a bit of a sore point according to the posts on this forum).

Jason

PS/FYI
The great looking multi-light tutorial from NL (tom?) on http://think.maxwellrender.com/multilight_27.html doesn't seem to work on my mac at all - is there any audio? it seems to have some strange encoding and without audio it is a bit difficult to follow :( - not sure if this is a mac only problem but take a look if you can...

Works smoothly here. Installed Leopard and running benchwell to see if there is any difference, even if i believe there won't be any.
In few words, no problem with Leopard/Maxwell, even if the decision of not to join the first wave is wise. I browsed a couple forums and there are users that have had problems. Not my case (i just had changed the permissions for my startup disk and wasn't able to access it anymore....scary!) but if you want, go check for example the forum at macrumors.com.

sounds good. just curious, have you also tested the network rendering mode? i am hoping to get this running soon but am a bit discouraged from reading around on the forums.

I'm testing during the weekend. Will post as soon as i will get solid results, even because i am not really experienced in network tasks
:?
Until now i realized that the benchwell test gave almost the same result before and after the installation both on my MacbookPro Intel Core Duo and on my MacPro dual dual 2,66. Go and check the results on benchwell.com: my username is Laszlo and you would see that my scores are coupled with the ones of other users with identical machines.
