Has any body loaded windows xp 64bit on the mac intel?

On the benchwell site, I saw that some one posted a time with an octa mac with windows 64bit loaded.

From the boot-camp manual is mentions that the 32bit system should only be loaded.

Any ideas?

hello there

I'm on the cusp of buying an 8-core mac pro to do just that - I didn't realiase that BCamp is only meant for x32 XP  - gonna give it a try when I get it anyways. waiting for release of leopard before I take the plunge (and hoping for updated / new? mac pro's)

I'd be interested to hear from mac pro owners and their exp of maxwell on mac pro (under os x or xp/vista)

best regards

our experience of running maxwell in windows xp on the mac 32bit.
windows version renders at twice the speed.
mac in studio loads the file 10 times faster.

need to make sure the screen saver is set to none and the power manager is set to always on the windows.

also having a problem resuming a render under windows but no problem on the mac.

not tried a network render under windows yet.

do-not bother with the windows xp the mac osx is faster in your scenes and tests the benchwell file creates some very strange times.

i did get xp 64 bit loaded but still not as fast on the renders we did on the mac.

good news for the mac for once.

I used this tutorial to install XP64:

Windows XPx64

Insert your Windows XPx64 CD and restart. Go ahead and let rEFIt load up and then choose the Windows CD. Or...when you hear the chime, hold down the C key (to boot from CD).

Windows Setup will start. (Upon initial setup from the Windows CD, the install froze at “checking system hardware”, I was able to get it going again by just touching the power button once, do not press and hold as this will turn off the system)

At the disk partition screen, select the C: drive. "Quick partition" it as NTFS (or FAT32 if you want to write to it in Linux and Mac OS X). Setup will continue and eventually it will restart your computer. (see Talk:Triple_Boot_via_BootCamp for a workaround if the Windows installer does not offer to reformat your windows partition at install time - the Windows installer should format it here or it may not be bootable)

After the first restart, choose the Windows HDD from rEFIt in order to continue setting up XPx64. You will need to repeat this until Windows is fully installed.

Install necessary 64bit drivers specific to the MacPro:
Nvidia drivers for 7300GT graphics card: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp64_93.71.html
Chipset drivers for Intel processor: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... n&lang=eng
Network card driver: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/detail_ ... nldid=8719
Once your internet connection is up, go to Windows update and install the HD audio bus driver before installing the following driver from RealTek: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dow ... o%20Codecs

Activate windows: Now that your network card works, activate Windows (so that it doesn't stop working)

You should now have most of your issues in the hardware manager resolved, video up to snuff, and workable audio.

You now have a dual boot system! But obviously, we aren't finished yet.
