Before I do anything stupid. anyone manged to install this in ubuntu feisty7.04

I am having some troubles

I get the folowing error when trying to load studio

Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server

Xlib:
Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key


mxst: cannot connect to X server :0

ok so I finally got somethings working , but now I think taht my fiel is having some problems this is what I get notice that I ge tno icons and I can;t get the material preview window and who knows what else I am not getting. I get the following error.

And I get that last line when I try to Register... Plus when I quit Maxwell Studio, ubuntu chrashes and I'm back at the Login screen. And when I sudo ./startmxst I'm back at Login directo.

Hey do you have beryl or compiz installed. I remeber doing a couple of things and then it work. I can;t remeber what was one but I had to chage some setting because of beryl

Works fine here together with Beryl/Compiz on Fedora Core 7 x86_64, you just need to change Alt+LMB key combination to Super+LMB in Window settings.

I was actually running Compiz when I had the problems I described. I tried installing/running Beryl - but after a couple of days with no success I gave up and decided to install Windows.

BUT - same problem! IE when I start Studio in Windows a message appears about Material Preview not being available and then a very dismal looking Studio opens up with no icons and only the 3D view window - exactly as in ubuntu. Which means either a) Studio won't run on my hardware (M2A-VM with integrated ATI graphics), b) the official ATI drivers suck on Windows as much as on Linux or c) I've lost my marbles.

Back in ubuntu: concerning the license everything's fine now, I had to of course copy the DAT file and not the TXT - at least it's accepted when running mxcl, mxst still gives the same error. But I don't really need to run Studio on this box anyway, what's more important is the Maxwell server. But when I try to start it I get the same as what Aji posted earlier:

Well, compiz / beryl / compiz fusion will always tend to cause problems with applications using 3D OpenGL viewports. I tested Maxwell on Ubuntu 7.04 x86_64 and it works very nice. Although the machine has onboard Intel graphics I only had to disable viewport antialiasing. So, your ATI card could be highly responsible about the problem. About licensing, yes you need to get rid of txt and place dat file. On the other hand the error with mxst is not about license I guess. When mxcl accepts it, it means it's also OK with mxst, too. How do you start mxcl server btw?

To start mxcl server I made a copy of startmxcl, named it startmxsv and replaced -d with -server.
