Some of you may have seen the screwdriver i built in Modo recently, well i decided to toss together a rendering of it in Maxwell. Something simple yet hopefully nice. :)

Here we go..

First the wire and the reference photo from the Modo 301 thread.

And the first quick testrender now during material creation and tweaking.

More to come in a little bit.. :)

That is really nice !

How do you find modo for modelling ?

Thanks cali :) i'm glad you like it so far even tho i just started on this simple wip.

About Modo for modeling, what else can i say other than it's great! i love it, such a easy and userfriendly modeler to work with and when you got a firstclass UV mapper and texturepainting tool all in one app it just makes life alot easier. :) sure it has a powerful fast renderer but i can't stand it's complex materialsystem and hundreds of parameters when you gonna render something so i port everything to C4D for rendering with my external engines.

Here's an update of the above, this has improved materials and textures except for the floor which i have to do something about. Possibly add some type of workbench material on it. I don't know yet..

Rendertime for this is 60 minutes.

Super modeling and sweet render too!! :D

I have tried dwelling into Modo a couple of times, but I just cant seem to get friendly with it. It freaks me out that I have to select i.e. vertices, then the move tool, then switch to select tool and select new vertices, then switch to the move tool again.. pisses me off totally!

Hopefully its just me who is wrong :P

That update is amazing btw :) cool materials :)

Cali i know that feeling ... it's quite the same with me

@ Maximus : The update looks so damn sexy... i never knew that screwdrivers could have such a big sexappeal ;)

Brett: Thank you! :) the modeling was the easy part, this shader construction and all that scene building stuff is the tough part of all this, but it's all good fun!

cali: Hehe :D you know that's pretty funny since i actually don't like all that picky job to mess with vertices, edges and all that stuff. Nurbs are so much easier to work with but even they have their disadvantages which is why i'm forcing myself into messing with polygonalmodeling. :) but you're right, it's a mess to work with no matter what enviroment (program) you're in. Btw, it helps ease the pain in Modo if you learn the keyboard shortcuts. And.. thanks! :)

djflod: :) thanks a bunch! heh, yea even dull dumb things like this can look sexy if you know how to dress it up.

Here's one more treat for you guys, it's a inbetween shot which rendered while i modelled some extra stuff for this scene in Modo. And ofcourse, it's Maxwell rendered in about 1 hour 45 minutes on lowprio.

Nice work Max. Model and material are excellent.

Any plans for caustics?

Bubba: Thank you :) but is it really to small ? you mean it's not tiled enough ? hm, alright i'll look into that, might change it into a new better map soon.

Tim: Thanks! :) about caustics.. i guess that'll come when/if it comes depending on the lightingsetup etc. I can't predict if it will show up yet or not so i'm gonna have to leave that one open, sorry.

Now a screenshot from C4D of a scene setup based around this screwdriver model. It's a box of screws that tipped over on it's side and thrown screws all over the workbench.. atleast that's what it's supposed to look like and that's the idea. :) ...if i manage to pull this off nicely is a whole different question.

A first updated testrendering of the above will come in a while.

I mean those little pieces of "scrap" you can see in the map are probably anywhere between 1 and 3 inches. What I mean is less tiling.

Alright i understand now Bubba, thanks i'll take a look at that tomorrow. But this texture isn't tiled at all. It's straight outta the box if i say so. I might exchange this one to another better texture instead.

Last update for tonight, not one i'm that satisfied with. It looks kinda cheesy :/

Have to redo this tomorrow..
