I have a Geforce 6600 GT (lastest drivers) on a 4200 - 64x2 AMD on win XP

Can you guys clarify what you mean by running it in a single screen....

i have dual screen as most people do, but i keep teh viewport in one window and the object materials windows on my other screen....
how should i do it .. as i get slow downs on occasions ....

:)
I pretty much disable one screen alltogether

Is anyone else having slowdown when selecting objects in the viewport or are the slowdown issues just when panning rotating your view etc. My viewport rotates and moves fine, but when selecting objects or moving an object there is about a 5 second delay from when I click the mouse and something happens. I just installed the new nvida drivers for my quadro fx 4500 and tried turning off one of my dual monitors, but it is still slow in these aspects. Its very frustrating to work in studio when this happens. It only seems to happen once I have a large assembly that has been exported from solidworks. On smaller scenes with just a few objects it works fine.

I have viewport slowdown in Studio and issues with the viewport redrawing, with dual screen 3200x1200 on NVidia Quadro FX1400 - latest drivers Win x64.

This is most noticeable when switching between windows, eg MXCL, MXST & PS running together, depending on CPU load and ram level my machine will lock until MXST viewport redraws.

Even switching off all Open GL options in MXST doesn't improve things.

Only possible solution I though of, but haven't tried yet, is reducing the size of the viewport in MXST, which would reduce the time taken to redraw it. :?

I noticed that selecting by clicking on the object list gets immediately picked, but picking the object in the viewport takes about 10 seconds.

I think this is the heart of the matter. As mentioned in another thread I too experience 'massive' slowdowns when trying to select objects in the viewport. I can click on 15 objects and then go have a coffee break.

Otherwise, rotating and zooming etc are pretty smooth - so to clarify that is not my issue. My only slowdown experience in 1.5 studio is picking objects in the viewport....

Exactly. Everything else works fine. Rotating panning etc. Its selecting objects and manipulating them is the problem. Mouse clicks in the viewport are painfully slow.

Hi,

Yes, so there are two issues:

- The performance of some dual screen systems is bad, but it uses to be fixed just updating the drivers.

- The performance selecting in the viewport is slower with the latest cards. It is much slower with a nvidia 8800 gtx than with a two years old gforce 6600. We have debugged it in many different systems and all the problem is related to an opengl call that used to run natively in hardware but in the new generation of graphic cards (especially in nvidia cards, right now it seems that with ati this issue is not as big) it is emulated by software and takes ages. It is a pity that the latest hardware is letting opengl down a bit, it will force us to redesign this area, we are looking into the best way to do that.

Thanks for the feedback,

Juan

But Juan, if you could add DirectX support in Studio then these slowdown issues wouldn't occur and DX support would introduce alot more nice features for Studio such as the possibility of realtime preview of textures/some materials, lights, much faster movement within Studio and much much more. And DX runs on both Mac and PC nowadays. It would be very good if it was supported.

It would be very nice, but OSX does not support dX natively, there are some approaches that emulate it by software but their performance is not good at all. However I am not saying that we won't support dX in the future, of course we always look for ways to enhance studio and providing dx support could be one of the ways to go.

Oh i see, hm i thought it supported it :/ but maybe you can add DX support anyways for those platforms that support it. As it opens up so many more doors compared to what opengl does. And also with the introduction of DX10 now it's getting even better and more popular. :) it's certainly something for Maxwell to have, maybe with the help of that it would be possible for a type of baked realtime type walkthrough possibilities of Maxwell rendered scenes.

I really hope you consider a good solid DX9/10 implementation in a not to distant future. :)

if osx doesn't want to keep up... then it's not NL fault... I say you guys should implement it!

Leonardo, could you make this test for me?
Change the view to a 2d and then back to perspective. Does it improve speed?

no, it doesn't help :(

Hi Leonardo,

- Was it faster before? have you update drivers, installed other 3d
application...?
- What happens if you switch to other render modes (flat, toon, shaded...)? Does it run slow too?
- Do you have Studio installed in more than one computer? If so, are both running slow? could you give us the graphic specs?

Many thanks for the info,

Juan
