Thanks guys :) I'm intending to record a weight-maps tutorial and submit it to the Think! site sometime in the coming week, so look out for that one!

Cheers,

Sheesh. Yeah that grass looks really good. Nice job. Was the grass texture from the mxm site, or one of your own?

EDIT : Eric, its a combination of maps that I've found off of the internet, and I've just been experimenting with the bump. I'll post it when I have 5 minutes :)

Hey Guys,

Right, well this project finally has a set end date! It's turned out to be a really huge job that has involved a LOT of work, and really stretched my slowly developing architectural skills. Overall I'm happy with most of the images (some of which I can't show for those age-old reasons...) but these two still look too 'cartoony' for my liking. Whether it's just that I've been working on them too long I don't know, but I was hoping you guys might be able to give me your opinions.

Basically....I'm asking you to tear these images to shreds. Go to town. Nit-pick like crazy :D

Known Issues
----------------
Shot 1 : The path and any thing brown/blue :)
Shot 2 : The path/road and walkways.
The slate mats are changing, and the wooden steps are being re-modelled, and yes, the trees now have branches :D

Thanks guys, and don't hold back! I'm going to be adding in some more foliage later today (ferns etc...) and I'll repost after that, but anything you can think of would be awesome!

Cheers,
Dr Merman

p.s This job getting ramped up has made me have to put off the video tutorials for a week or two, but they're on their way...:)

First, you have done a good job; it has turned out really well. Congrats on it.

My first c&c (applies to both pics) is that the rendering is too clean and appears empty and the trees, grass, walkway, the materials on the buildings, porches, etc. are similar to one another. Examples: there is little variation from tree to tree with regard to the leaves on the trees i.e., color, sun/shaded side, etc. The concrete walkway has an even appearance from beginning to the background. Joints will help some and suble changes to the broom finish will give it more and differing texture between the joints. The block on the front of the foreground building is nearly identical in appearance to the same material on the builiding right center background.

Compositionally, it is obvious what you have done, however, the eye is torn between the foreground building and the walkway which takes the eye into the distance *past* the building center right background. Maybe some interior settings and lighting, visible through the windows, would hold the eye longer before it is carried into the distance.

"Foray" implies this is the first or one of a very few archviz 3D projects you have completed. It does not look that way at all. And, I cannot see the "cartoony" look you referred to. To me, you are dealing with the last hellish 5% to make it sing.

Looks really good, especially if rendered longer. The thing that I saw first is the empty space on the left side of the first image. Fill it with trees!
