The project for the day is to get some images on the Maxwell board.

These are old images, but it's a start. (maybe they should be in WNLIP, works no longer in progress)
These were some quick images to show a local jewelry manufacturer to see if I could get some rendering gigs. They seemed impressed, but no gigs yet.

My regular gig is a product designer and have newer product design images, but I can't can't show those. That's frustrating. I'm tired of waiting for those to be OK to show.

I'm headed to San Diego next week for SIGGRAPH and looking forward to meeting some other Maxwell folks. I've been wanting to get some work up for a while... so here we go.

Thanks guys! :D
I appreciate the nod.

Oh, I forgot, that was Rhino on a PC and Maxwell on a Mac Intel Quad. Nowdays, I'm doing Rhino in Parallels and it runs circles around my poor old tired PC.

I like the jewelry but the studio setup is kind of bland. How about setting them on wrinkled silk or a soft pillow or something? Just a suggestion. Post more!

Those look great. The only comment I might make is that for realism you are bang on, but for showing off the product you might want to think about a bit better separation of tones off the background. Slightly brighter ring or slightly darker background (or vice-versa) would help the rings jump a bit better.

Just my .02, but if you are showing ring designers they probably will care more about how sexy the rings look as long as the realism is in place - which it already is. :)

Damn good job in any case.

Ah ha!
They do kinda fade into the background, don't they. Thanks for the suggestions and compliments.

Cool. Thanks Bubbaloo y simmsimaging

Here's a simple lighting setup for a ring lying on a table... Large emitter from above, and a small bright emitter hitting the diamond.

Nice - and this has the background/object separation that I was suggesting.

So, is this a known issue?
