If you have such slow downs it could be that you have another 3D application and the OGL speed ups can't be "shared" between them, one will be fast, the other slow. This happens on my system anyway, it depends on the graphics card.

No that's not what's causing it either, same slowdowns still occur with no other applications running. It happens on a clean system.

And everything else runs fast and smooth on my 8800GTS card so that can't be it.

I mean sure it's usable and fast in Studio, IF i set it to bounding box mode for the preview window. But anything else brings it quickly down on it's knees just like the other guys here also said.

It's strange that only we normal users seem to have this problem, but not anyone of you betatester guys or any other part of NL. That part i don't quite get..

I have also noticed tremendous slowdowns in the viewport. Even when using the standardmatscene and selecting the preview object it takes several seconds to light up. And my computer is heavy duty!

It is strange, I've had no evidence of slowdowns in studio at all, seems very speedy to me. I wonder, have you experimented with options in your video driver for 3d/opengl stuff? My computer is fast but certainly not the speediest. Main difference here is all of my systems have either an FX1400 or FX1500 quadro card.

I have something along the lines:
ge-force 6600gt (i think  )

and it was faster in 1.1 for sure!

I haven't read the whole threat, but maybe your problem is related to the
nvidia driver texture memory bug with 8800 cards, that has been detected
and will be fixed with the next driver update?

Here is an info about it:

Num Triangles: 4,037,620 :D and let me tell you, I do my final comp in Studio.... (vegetation texturing and final touches)

Now:
Geometry:
- Num Meshes: 53
- Num Triangles: 1444409

and I can't move a single poligon without crashing or creating a massive slow down while using the viewport...

same thing happen on other scenes

if I have the scene already open and I disable VBO, i get the same result

If I try to open the scene with VBO already disable... it freezes

Hi,

I just came back from Siggraph and a few days of vacation after it.

In standard systems Studio 1.5 should be so much faster than v1.1. We implemented vertex buffer objects, better and faster iterators, more efficient geometry containers.. in example in a OSX machine we improve the camera handling from 1 fps to 30 pfs in an scene with 500K polys. The selection speed has been dramatically improved as well, selecting 4000 objects in the objects list takes 2 mins in v1.1 and it is almost real time in 1.5.

The problem is that lately we have noticed that some drivers don't run basic functions natively but emulating by software. It is especially noticeable with the latest nvidia cards, that have worse opengl performance than most of the 2 years old nvidias, it happens specially with secondary screens or at high resolutions. Please check that you have the latest drivers, and check if the performance is better running Studio in a single screen at 1024x768. If the speed is so much better, then it seems an issue with the drivers. We are looking into that area trying to find ways to enhance the performance. Could you please post here your graphic specs? We will try to build a machine like yours and test Studio there. Thank you very much :)

Regards,

Juan

Running 1.5 in a single screen fixed the problem... I don't know if it's faster than 1.1, but it's possible to work on studio again.

I have a Geforce 6600 GT (lastest drivers) on a 4200 - 64x2 AMD on win XP

Can you guys clarify what you mean by running it in a single screen....

i have dual screen as most people do, but i keep teh viewport in one window and the object materials windows on my other screen....
how should i do it .. as i get slow downs on occasions ....
