i have a dilema!

i have multiple monitors and i dont know what monitor is closest to what
most forum/web users will see.

one monitor is a samsung SyncMaster the other is the one built into my hp laptop.

the difference between the same image on the two monitors is astounding.
the image was significantly darker on the laptop and conversely much more vibrant on the samsung

in an effort to find the medium for the masses, i am posting the original
image which was setup on the samsung monitor. the second is my own
color correction on the image while viewing it from my laptop.
i simply adjusted the values until i had it close to what i saw on my samsung

Laptop Color Corrected Version

again, these images very similar when viewed together on their respective monitors.

feedback on which looks better would be appreciated
any other offerings to color correct to what looks good on their monitor is very welcome and i will compare with what i have.....

please list monitor type if you post a cc

thanks

I'd say split the difference. On my monitors one is too dark and the other is too light/washed out.

I think you need to calibrate both your screens :)

thx simmsimaging, unfortunately they are both lcd monitors and sadly not
able to calibrate them :x

further , with lcd monitors angle of view is important

i know certain softwares have look up tables between monitors and
printers , is there such a thing for monitors ? houdini's image viewer
can accept them in the correct format

it would solve an awful lot

we use luts at work constantly to ensure quality and correctness
but we also only use CRTs for color correction

perhaps i still need the clunky old CRT.......

here is another cc on my laptop.
i set the values on this one from a more perpendicular viewing angle to
the laptop monitor

Seems better to me.

Regarding calibration; I am not sure why you think you cannot calibrate an LCD - I do it regularly. I don't really use profiling systems myself as I prefer to calibrate by eye to controlled proofs (I use Powerstrip to adjust the screens) but there is certainly software/hardware out there to calibrate your screens. Do some digging online and you will find options.

I do colour correction work professionally and I use LCD's for it. They are not quite as accurate as CRT's, but that really depends on which LCD's and which CRT's you are talking about. Seriously accurate colour can, IMO, never be had on a monitor anyway so you always have to do fine work by the numbers, not by what you see on *any* screen. Again, that's just my opinion.

Good luck with it.

Usually the controls that come in a lcd monitor does not let make big changes in brightness, just some slight touches. I usually calibrate the monitors through the graphic card controls (at least nvidia usually offers that kind of utilities).
