Just a little filler project that actually Fran started from helping out José Hadad famed jewlery designer .. :) He needed a Rococo frame...

Anyway .....

She created a displaced frame, .. I took the bitmap and did it again and also setup a scene to render, ..sent it to her.

She Fryed it, ...I baked it .....

This was just for fun and not any comparison, .. okay, .. maybe a little, but nothing too hard. got that ? ...good.

I did what I could w/the gilt material ...... the painting had nothing, ..pure diffuse, ...but being a Van Gogh --- it really could of used some bump and shine to get that heavy impasto technique he liked to use.

The exercise was really about creating a cheap model through displacement. Good enough for me, .....enjoy and crits are welcome.

look good, ivox! Great result of the displacement!
It is something about that gilt material...it looks almost wet. Maybe it is a little bit to shiny?

well. I must say, and it really feels good, I like both these pictures of yours. was actually waiting to see what you would come up with chris, cos I've seen fran's over at the fry forum first.

maybe, if I had to pick a winner, and I'm glad you both picked dutch painters, I'd say vermeer wins hands down. but it's just me.

Hmmm.. Tough call. They both have things going for them. I tend to agree with Kurt though - it's a bit too shiny/smooth for gilt, but Frances' feels much the same.

Regardless - you both did a nice job.

Thanks for the commentary guys ....

@ Kurt: Yeah, .. the gilt could still use a little something, .... what do you think about anistrophy ??? maybe ?? If you shoot a pointer, .. I'll do it. ;)

@ Rivoli : Vermeer, ... that's some high style, .. but your a stylish cat.

I called it a "little render smackdown" in my thread.

And rivoli, Chris was first to raise the bar. :D
