I have added a third rendering. In term of material setting, it's a mix between 1 and 2. I'm quick happy with this one.

I guess in the reference you have some kind of flash light or very focused and intense frontal light which gives those reflected caustic and nice highlights in the numbers and the handle.

Great job in the modeling and material.

Edit: I like the third too; it doesn't have the yellow tint but is as contrasted as the first one.

that last, big rendering really looks perfect! Impressive work!

I have never been able to produce caustics from a hdr environment, but you get excellent caustics from small, bright emitters and from the sun/physical sky

How can this be not good enough for any CG'er, client, ...consumer? ..... very well done hyltom. ;)

I let this one cook over the weekend but can't tell you exactly how long time it has taken and which SL it has reached has the computer was shutdown when i arrived this morning...probably due to a power cut.

I'm starting to be very exasperate with the picture hosting. Before i host my image in flickr but now the website is blocked by China. Than i moved to DivShare, and now it's my company who blocks the access...or maybe it's also blocked in China now...

Sorry, take a look again as i made a mistake. I have share the wrong image (i suppose you have seen the one with the caustic. It's a photo montage of the rendering and the real photo)...this hosting problem make me crazy. I have update the link and now you can see the real maxwell rendering without any postwork.

And just for the fun, another version with some postwork (color change and add caustics)
