thanks Tom!

There is no way to make the emitter double-sided, other that modelling two surfaces?
The MXI/emitter on the preview is only emitting light in one direction.
when I tried to make two surfaces with a small distance between I had to mirror the projector for the side facing the wall. It looked ok in Studio, but the side facing the wall is throwing wierd light at the wall, not what one should expect from the emitter.

Its not so visible on this rendering, but you can se some strange blue light, and light in the middle of the circular sign, where there are no emitter.:

brilliant!
looks like those markers you use for motion tracking.

and it reminds me somehow of splinter cell.

thanks a lot!
I might submit it to the material gallery, but I'll wait and see if my other emitter material submitted on wednesday is accepted by the NL team (still not published...)

Maybe you can make a LED spotlight ... looks not much different from this already!

It should be possible to make something that looks like LED spotlights, but the problem is that the light from the MXI is so diffuse and not reflected from any reflector.

by the way, the material is published now: http://mxmgallery.maxwellrender.com/sea ... =1&id=2609

bump:

ok, I found a reasonable explanation in another thread:
Ernesto wrote:It seems that the bump effect is independent for each pixel, and Maxwell is not considering that there should be continuity between pixels.
In this way we can only reproduce a fragmented apearance.
When the resolution is small, and each pixel of the bump map represents a bigger sqare on the water surface, we get a less fragmented result, because there are not so much pixels.
On the other hand if we get a high resolution bump map, the result will be a very noisy surface.
But it is not possible to get an aparent continuity in the reflecting surface, as well as in the refracted joints.

I'm trying to make an ocean material. These tests are made on a flat/plain surface. Needs more work though...
