I plan to make some fun images combining figure models I photograph and composite into what I hope will be photorealistic CG backgrounds.

The end result should be some kitschy, fun, kick-ass photos that don't take themselves too seriously.

Here is an early, early, early smooth plastic render, just to test the pipes.

When I'm done the flames will be weathered painted wood, like a set in a burlesque show or a carnival.

Here's a sneak peek. More to come.

the thing that gets me is the brush strokes and the fact that the paint looks like tempera… 8)

I used ArtRage for the brushes, and I also used the brush strokes as a bump map in Maxwell.

I put a fair amount of effort into the weight maps on the rims that scuff away the yellow to reveal aluminum

So, is this a known issue?
