Please post here anything else (not relating to Maxwell technical matters)

I know it's somewhat stupid question, and there are some description in the manual.

but I want to know the more easy theoretical explation :)

On the next month, I have a schedule to lecture about maxwell at the seminar.

So I wanna tell it to audience that the mean of the unbiased and the difference with other GI renderer.

I think this is already discussed, but I can't find it.

"Unbiased means that, with sufficient
render time, the rendered solution will always converge to the correct result without
the introduction of artifacts. Other rendering engines based upon widely known
techniques such as photon mapping, radiosity, light maps, irradiance maps or other
interpolation methods always produce biased renders. Consequently, they cannot
guarantee convergence to the correct solution no matter how much time is expended
on the rendering process.." Next Limit White Paper, 2005

Also,

"Unbiased means Maxwell Render™ does not use tricks to imitate real world behavior like
other renderers – everything is reproduced as it is through governing physical equations." http://www.maxwellrender.com/pdf/whats_maxwell.pdf

And, look here under Product, etc.: http://www.maxwellrender.com/

I'd be smarter not discussing linguistics since english is not my first language, but I'll try. Three uses of 'bias' I have in mind:

-Old high end tape recorders had a bias setting. It would control the orientation of the head to the tape. Used that time to fine tune to other recorders' misalignment.

-Race cars have brake bias. You can direct more braking power to front or rear wheels.

-A biased person is the one who has preconceived ideas about something, not having a neutral judgement of it.

So bias pretty much stands for direction. Saying maxwell is not biased would mean that it's not directed, it does not know a previous set of rules to find a solution. It will just calculate and see what comes out, with no short cuts. It also means that we can't tell it what to do, so we can't bend it's rules.
