Heya,

to make technical drawings I often use Rhino to prepare all geometry and then do final work in illustrator. A hugely annoying problem that I haven't been able to overcome yet is when adding arrowheads to lines, they are placed at the end of the lines at the vertex. The result is an arrow pointing inside a rectangle instead of at the edge, where it should.
I have to manually trim the lines, and that is very tedious. Is there a way to make illustrator place the arrow's tip at the end of the line?

Cheers!

Not with Effect > Stylize > Add Arrowheads but you can with a custom pattern brush.

1. Create a triangle. Your arrow shape.
2. Create a single line. Not long, just a shorter one.
3. Drag the triangle onto the pattern palette, to make a pattern out of it.
4. Drag the line onto the brushes palette to make a brush out of it. Next, in the New Brush dialog select "Pattern Brush" to create a new pattern brush.
5. Next, in the Pattern Brush Options dialog, select the line as the side tile (default) and select the arrow for the end tile (the first and last tiles will be used this way).

Now just select any line, click the arrow brush you just created and there it is. The tip ending at the ... tip.
