hm... seems to be a bit like a virus... 2 hours ago my network coop worked. and now i have the same issues. servers start and get connected. afp volume is mounted to all machines and distribution from manager starts. what i can see is that during the process of sending the textures the mounted volume disapears and is mounted again. so i counted the number of entities inside my "pack and go" folder and it is the same as the amount of mounting and unmounting my afp volume...

really strange. even it worked 2 hours ago... and now there is noch chance to get one server to start rendering...

guess we really need nachob´s help....

Hi all,
bejack:
what i can see is that during the process of sending the textures the mounted volume disapears and is mounted again
This was the behavior previous to 1.5.1.0 patch, sometimes without any apparent reason some of the mounts could time out and avoid the rendering to take place. Are you sure you are using the 1.5.1.0 version in all your machines?

Sometimes it's needed to restart manager and server applications if it fails without reason or if some of the machines crashed. The 1.5.1.0 patch was supposed to solve all the issues with networking in OSX and avoid the limitations in the 1.5.0.0 release. It has been used here at NL headquarters in many different configurations and for several projects. Try not to change paths manually, it should not be needed.

If some of the machines crashes could you post the report text?

Thanks a lot

Here is some info:

http://web.mac.com/danielhruby/Maxwell_ ... splay.html

Both machines are using 1.5.1. I always restart both Manager and Server after a crash on Server. I still wonder (due to my lack of understanding paths) if I have them correctly set up. The server machine always asks for IORs and they are in the pack/go folder that I instruct the MXS to link to when adding the job. It seems like they are being looked for on the Server drive rather than on the Manager drive. But I could be wrong about that. Sorry for my ignorance on this aspect. I am an architect, not a network adminitrator. :(

I also want to use a hybrid network of Ethernet and Airport as my internet connection is Airport based, but I can link the two macs with an ethernet cable. Is it possible to keep and share my airport connection while allowing the two machines to use Ethernet to do the coop communications?

daniel (and all other mac friends),

as a tester i would like to give you all a tip for reporting bugs: for developers the detailed OSX crash report may be very useful. if a crash happens, just click the 'report' button and copy and paste the content into your forum bug report. the best is to select the report then and click on the 'code' button in your open posting window. this will preserve the correct formatting of the report text
Code: Select all
and will look green like this. ;)
otherwise, you can also find all older crash reports of your mac when you open the 'console' application in applications/utilities/. click on the big 'logs' icon in the top row, then select ~/library/logs, then crashreporter, and here look for the maxwell applications...

also, if you keep the console.app open during rendering you will see a lot of debugging messages, those too may be interesting for nachob.

cheers
