To be constructive...
I have been using MS for almost 10 years and think it is a very good 3D modeller. I wish it could do organic stuff (a bit tired of crimping other's mattresses and pillows) but word is that this will get better in XM...
Any way. For the longest time I defended MS rendering and actively participated in the Bentley MS VIZ NG.
When I, recently, joined the product design team in my office we, as a group, decided to use MAX with FR1 for rendering (I tried to convince the group to stay with MS but the rest of the team models in ProE and they were just convinced that FR1 would be easier to learn). I have to say that this has opened my eyes. It really is much easier to get good results in FR1, though I think it was easier to pick up for me because of my MS render background. The thing I hate, though, is having to use MAX just to get to the rendering engine. I am used to working in a CAD program (AC would not be that different from MS) so I really find MAX annoying.
This is why I hope that Maxwell will be only the first to give us an alternative to MS render. If, as I assume, a Maxwell Plugin means that we would be able to do our render setup directly in MS, albeit slightly differently than we do now, that is only much the better. I do hope this can go further than the rantings of someone that, IMO, should be barred from the Forum.
If it does go forward I will be glad to provide what I hope will be constructive criticism.
Maybe we can all do that, but firs we need to know that things are happening. I know from the MS VIZ NG that Victor, or someone for him, has contacted Bentley and that he has been given the information that Bentley believes he needs in order to start work on the MS Plugin.
Hopeful,
Stefano
