I know it's a cliché, ..but it's a fairly simple scene, ...just a bit unorthodox.
The other day I was looking at this tank of Koi fish that I inherited from a client (long story there..) Anyway,... I had the screwy thought of placing an entire scene(camera too, ..especially the camera) in a body of water to see what would happen ... I've done it before, ..but forgot the results and I think I've seen others do it too, ...but also forgot the results. Moving along, ..I expected total noise and blackness. Nope, ...pretty clear, ...actually too clear. So next, I added a 1" thick block of glass paralell to the camera target plane hoping that it would start to refract some rays giving the underwater feel.. ?
It turns out that the glass creates a kind of forced vignetting on just the left and right(no corners) and that begins to create the murky quality. So that was good....
The background is a jpeg turned mxi, ..pretty much low-res (1024px), ..the extra grain in the image translates to more
murky-ness. If the image was too clear , then I would of had to add blur through f-stop, ...but with the glass in front of the camera (w/slight angle) , ..figuring out what would be in focus and what wouldn't was way too much trouble, ..... hence the low-res mxi.

** There's also a single emitter(cold 20W fluor) plane above the fish (also within the water -- otherwise the fish are just sihlouetted).
* add -ml too, ...definitely.
...that's pretty much it.
Maxwell !
..thanks again.
....and thanks to JD / Hervé for the private critique ..
