I´m a designer and I have to say that stealing ideas are very bad habit in Finland. Have you any this kind of experiences? If you have please share it - I think that those stolen ideas must have more publicity!!!

I won first price with this desing in Iittalas contest. I started mine final thesis with this design, but after two months they told me that they are not interested of this design because they werent not launching any cutlery in the future - this happened in 2003. What happened in 2006, they launced SWING cutlery!!! I´m so pissed of - GODDAMN IM ANGRY

Although, I have to admit I've never seen utensils sold by 3's. Only 4, 6, 8, 12, etc.

(... but it has nothing to do with the quality of the image)

well, you had nothing written down..?. any document that proves the design is yours...? or you could buy a 45 and go talk to them...

man, all these people stealing are real loosers...

Thanks.. they also threatend me if I show this design to another producers, I coulnt design for Iittala never after that. This thing had little publicity in finnish press - but I think that this case has not ended..

I have this design files dated for 16.4.2003 - can I do anything afterwards- does anyone know these legal things..?

Check 'the small print' of the design contest, you may have already written away your exclusive rights to the design.

Alternatively, write to them formally [through you lawyer] raising the fact -with the proof you have- that this design is yours and that you will have no choice but to pursue legal avenues unless commensurate remuneration is forth-coming.

However, you need to be able to prove the design is yours............I can't tell from the link how close they both are.

Sorry Jack, ....it happens everywhere, in every field. Get past the emotional part, ...dispel with it, ......it won't help you, but will actually hurt you. Once your relaxed, gather your information and do the same for 'their' product (if not the actual product) ------ then call an attorney if your serious or let it be a lesson.

I can't stress enough the need to remove the negative emotions associated with this, ..I'm not going to get into the details involved here, ..but it's important.

remember: It's better to be stolen from than to steal. Whoever steals is actually stealing away their own ability to create the very thing they're stealing from another. Otherwise, ..why wouldn't they just create it for themselves? The behavior simply reinforces a self perceived sense of lack or powerlessness, a completely subjective state accepted as fact.
So, despite the outward appearance of gain, ....it's really double the loss (or more and usually so) for them in the end -- whether or not your aware of it is irrelevant.

Now I ask you ? .....who would you rather be?

good point.. I would be rather stolen.. Timo Sarpaneva(famous finnish designer) said that its a "kunnian osoitus" (please some one translate it). to be a stolen.

Nice looking stuff you created and i sure hope you get what you should rightfully have (big piles of money) as you designed those thingy's. It's not gonna be easy tho..

I'm afraid this is something you have to kinda count on and try to get used to being a artist/designer, you'll get ripped off sooner or later. Just look at all the iPod, iPhone etc copies popping up in Asia all the time now.
