Well I had my first real kick in the teeth today. £3500 contract cancelled involving a clothing company.

Initial agreement three months ago, was payment on delivery of designs, with the company buying the copyright.

Today they told me I will recieve 10% per item of clothing sold. Projected sales will be sporadic and commision will net me £1 per item sold.

I can however sell the designs as I will retain the copyright. Woohoo. How many other clothing companies, will buy something that is being sold else where? I can't see many, but I don't have any experience with the clothing industry.

Not bad for 3 months work. Oh well, it's one way to learn to draw up a contract first.

No. I'm waiting for final confirmation from both owners of the company.

If they only offer me the commision, then I will withdraw the designs. My better half has suggested selling them on clothing through e-bay, which might not be a bad idea.

which means ----> 14173x10629 pixels

And this requirement comes from the advertising company! To attach the image to the sales office/hut of a building development.

Tim that's bad news
Good luck with it.

Well the fun never stops here, this since yesterday:

"It's corrupted! Every image in that folder is identical! they're all just of the logo at the start!"

"what all 6,700 frames?"

"yes!"

"There are 25 images for each 'second' of animation in there, you checked every one?"

"Yes! the start and the end!"

"Try frame 0860, you should see a building and some trees."

"Oh........I erm, well that one's correct yes."

"Ok, we're cooking on gas now".

We have one here in Brazil, "A pressa passa e a merda fica...", that would translate like "The hurry goes and the shit stays..." if, someone could rephrase this one for me please?

And there is this magical picture to be shown to every new customer:

Good one, Ricardo.
When I had my studio with 14 employees ( the next one would have been a shrink or a mortician for moi), I used to remind some ridiculous clients "Yes, we offer quick, cheap and perfect. But you only get two out of three at a time."
And if they didn't *get it* I'd remind them..........
If its quick and cheap.....its not perfect.
If its quick and perfect......its not cheap.
And if its cheap and perfect.....its definately not quick.

So the pricks that did PGA, NFL, MLB awards, or Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards or dust collectors for the POTUS's or PM's of Europe couldn't get their eggs in a row, they got the menu to choose from.

I love your diagram, Ricardo. But I doubt any of my customers at the time would have grasped it. "Its the Food Pyramid without the food"
( you have the know the US FDA to get that.).

Bummer, contract now been pulled, not even commision base, but I do retain my work and copyrights.

Anyone have any spare work going?

I like the triangle system, thanks for that.

Hey Tim - sorry to hear about your contract. I work freelance and I know that pain all too well. I never work with actual contracts so it's very common to have jobs get pulled at all stages.

Clients are insane - there's just no way around it. To explain it I like to borrow that line from Jack Nicholson in Good as it Gets (I think that was the movie anyway) and modify it slightly:

"To think like a client you simply think like a normal person, you just have to take away all reason and accountability."
