i knew they are called Gabionen in german, i didn't know that word exists in enlish too ...

large maps surely would be good, as i remember, i'm at 3000x2000 px. the problem's also the color gradient over the image...

and this very important topichere:

  :( :? :) :o  :P

yesyes !

for the stones i just made now different patterns with the magnetic lasso and then randomized them all over a 4K map. looks kinda okay.
i'm just creating a new .mxm with independent stones and wire cage.

for the tests with other stone types i'd use the an alpha image of the sandstone texture and multiply it against something You just posted. like that i'd get the same wall just with the new veiny marble !!

how did You achieve this ? free software ?

could You try this with this image here:

hmm. the material i created looks flat because the quality of the map is not enough... :?

maybe You can give this image here a try that i freed of any wire: i'd need a 4K map ... :D

edit:

i just tried the eval version of this software and it can not correctly resynth the stone pattern. it always gets very mud-looking results without recognizable stones...

--> i hope You use something better ...

it's generated with imagesynth ...really a fantastic little app 8)
maybe not 100% perfect but very fast!

wow, thanks a lot !

is imagesynth able to catch the sandstone material and replicate this pattern too?

if yes, i'll have a candidate to buy !

another quick one... :D
there are still some spottable repeating patterns in it, but i hadn't more time to do it better atm. can try it later if you need it...

i decided to use a green marble now as an other way of abstraction in the gabiones. i'll update as soon as i'll have results, of course.

an other question.
i'll have (probably) stones (monolithic) of the size of the openings stacked in the courtyard to build sockets for statues and possible seating devices. the surfaces themselves should be «designed» and done using cnc techniques.

for example (it's gonna be a museum/expo building), names of artists could be engraved on these large rocks or patterns could be etched in...

any other cool ideas to add an artistic texture to these monoliths in green marble ?
