I'll be signing that too.

There is never a good reason for pirating. Anyone that makes their living from intellectual property understands this.

I agree, the pricing from Adobe is high - even here in the states. However, as much as we don't like it, it's the cost of doing business. I use Solidworks; $6000.00 new, then another $1500.00 a year maintenance.

If one were a machinist, a good CNC station begins at $50,000.00. You wouldn't go out and steal one, nor could you complain to the manufacturer that it costs too much, you'd find an alternative. In this case, if you are casual or small business, there are alternatives to Adobe products that are not as costly (and some would say do a better job at some things)...

My 2 cents...

Mike,
this is no petition for piracy. We happily paid good money for software we make money with. It's honest anger about rising the European price tags by an extreme increment compared to US prices.

I understand that no one is advocating piracy. And I sympathize with my "brothers in arms". I think perhaps there is a missing piece of the puzzle here; why are the prices higher. Its been stated they are; why?

In China, you can buy anything on the streets for the cost of the raw DVD. Is it any wonder the prices there are so much higher?

Miles; why is this person a pirate? As near as I can tell, this is the CEO of a company. The CEO of any company only has one agenda; to make more money for the company. Period. If their compensation is based on their performance then they must be doing their job very well to make this kind of money.

Country borders mean nothing now. Any software can be downloaded via torrents anywhere on a planet, where there is an internet connection. No matter China, Russia, US or any other country.
A US citizen can get CS3 from torrents as easily as a UK citizen. The prices are different nonetheless.
This is the cause for the petition i think.

..not from Adobe I guess.

Of course, pricing in different regions has been, traditionally, different. We always paid more for Adobe apps than you, just like for computers, cars, fuel.. and for many reasons, different costs, taxes, markets. Adobe's latest move goes way beyond these reasonable differences, thus leaving their recent practice, while the markets really do converge.

Imagine in January 2008 8) Next Limit announces Maxwell 2 (download only) at the price of EUR 895 in Europe, and USD 1599 in the US.
This is our scenario.

here are some more facts

Hi Mike,

I understood that the problem is simple price gouging by adobe on specifically european customers. The cost of an identical upgrade in europe is doubled versus the cost in the US (excluding exchange rates).

I also purchased solidworks (office pro, then upgraded to premium) - I'm in canada and paid my 6000$us in canadian dollars by the current exhcange. But if solidworks said 'Oh, you live on the other side of the border so it's going to cost you $12,000us' - I think I'd flip out!!!! :)
