Splitting hairs AFAIK-- in terms of photographic differences., .....and she's a he. :)

Did I say she? Surely not.

As for splitting hairs - it depends on the scene. In my early tests, I just happened to be doing scenes that did not illustrate the differences well. If you go deliberately hunting for it, it's easy to see and highlight. And of course it affects the overall scene, but very subtly above about 100, 100,100. It's below that, in the 0-100 range that it can be very pronounced.

mverta wrote:I think he's saying not just logistically that it was beta, but that it was the "beta look" that motivated a lot of people. 1.0-1.1 has a slightly different tonemapping than beta did, which has been tested and demonstrated by no shortage of users to change the way the low-mids and shadows are rendered. A lot of people, myself included, think this is ultimately where the "beta" look resides, if that's your thing. 1.0 isn't "incorrect," but beta's tonemapping is felt by some people to be more photographic.

Beta all the way :D Your quote should be on NLs wall

Once the look was gone and I saw it over @ the other forum it all made sense. The other guys have a new tone mapping thing that makes night/low light renders better right off the bat but the other stuff reminds me of Beta.

It's nice to see that this type of conversation is taken for what it is which for me is just passing information around along the subject :D

Hi Mike :D

Does this mean it could be possible to switch between the 2, (with a tick box in maxwell / photoshop adjustment) or is it something fundamental to the R1 rendering process?

No, it's a difference at the very core of Maxwell 1.0-1.1's engine. So you have to sort of decide which one you want... (I mean, THEY had to sort of decide...)

Good question. One of Toms posts a few months ago had given me the
impression that the development of RS2 has been stopped. But maybe
i have interpreted it wrong.

It was the alpha look that brought me here :P

I have been trying to stay away from this thread, but guess what... I can't let go of one comment that mverta did :x

You think you are so good dishing spam eh? Well, the day that a hurricane hits you and you don't have electricity for weeks. Spam will taste delicious!

I keep a couple of cans in my apartment's kitchen and some fresh water too. 8)

I don't know because I'm not a tester.
Who is the tester?
I think maybe they don't tell me about it.
But ok, no problem.
Time will tell. :)

I don't know what features the RS2 should have but it sounds like something somebody just dreamed of and still wonders if it's possible to do. Super-fast and unbiased?? Have guys from NL found a way to do some clean unbiased cheats on the nature, math & physical laws??

I'm just 100% sure at this moment. People who dream of a superfast unbiased path-tracer should quickly forget it and concentrate on something different :)

You made me do it .......

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
