The Cornell box is imo the most impressive one, cause those solid, straight shapes are where most engines would show jagged edges. Shows how robust their solution is

So from 1.2 to 2.0 you have 0.8, that's.. well that's actually more than 6 years, that's about 8 years.

Sorry

Ofcourse they can jump from 1.2 to 2.0 directly and that would wreck my theory instantly but it wouldn't be clever to do that.

HEY! 8 Years sounds good to me :D .... it means no updates fees for almost a decade/ You can't beat that!

EDIT- but I do need displacement now... Just lets make that clear

6-8 years would be business suicide --- count on an earlier release, ----- 5 years! :P ........just kidding, .....come on Max --- don't be so illogical, get yourself the faith of a mustard seed.

How do these guys do it? Fry is adding features at an incredible clip. Or maybe the question should be, how does Next Limit not do it? We've been living with persistent, seemingly simple to correct, bugs for over a year. Other basic features have been requested and not delivered for years. All the while these guys are adding huge new feature sets in months, weeks, and sometimes days. I'm sure Fry has its problems too, but their responsiveness to user feedback seems pretty clear, and that's worth a lot to me.

I've been keeping an eye on Fry for a long time, and all along I've thought Maxwell was still making better images. But that shot from Fran with the carpet is pretty fantastic.

I don't really want to switch, but both of these companies in their own way are making it difficult to resist.

They don't argue for their limitations, they aren't aware you can't walk on water

Feversoft's community guy (also the lead programmer?) seems so laid back, which is quite amusing to read. "oh hey guys, i just wanted to say we added displacement, now excuse me while i eat my sammich".

not to mention striped rendering and portals = fast Fast FAST
*I think those have been mentioned in the public areas :?
*If not I'll let everyone assume what they could mean

What is unfortunate about all this is if NL doesn't have a micro poly solution then they will be reluctant to release 1.2 anytime soon now that they have seen how easly the other guys have given what NL promised sooooo long ago.

yes, me too - and i hope 1.2 will be a real step forward (if it really will be released some day)
it must be really top secret and groundbreaking stuff since nl don't want to show anything.

...otherwise i think i'm too tired of waiting and will jump on the fry-boat :?

There's only one thing to do and that is to release the march/april newsletter with a preview of the currently implemented and working (!!!) features. But oh no they do not want to release a "hasty" newsletter. Victor still didn't told Nicole when and what she should write in it because there is that "thin" line between their NL fantasies and currently implemented features. I seriously do not want to know what is keeping the newsletter from being released for such a long time because my brain might get fried.

It's just so good that I don't care :D
