Hey all,

Im using Pro Engineer Wildfire as my primary modeler due to my 3D Max 7 expiring :( as I'm a student. The problem is that when modeling anything in Pro E and I export it to a format suitable for Maxwell, I seem to not have very smooth geometry (Cylindrical shapes mainly). In 3D MAX a smooth mesh could be applied and worked great! Is there anyway round this?

Oh Yeah Ive tried blender and all work good in the package but when i exported it again to maxwell the geometry seem the same as exporting from Pro E? Is the a special file format to remember the smooth mesh added in blender?

Hope I made sense!

Feedback on this would be appreciated

Thanks

As far as I know it can export:

.igs
.obj
.stp
.iv
.prt
.set

Thanks

In that case try using Moi3D (http://www.moi3d.com), then export your model as IGES from ProE and import that into Moi3D, there you then export it as OBJ and adjust the meshexporters settings to your liking. If you need any help getting a nice clean mesh let me know but this is easy so you should have no problem figuring it out.

When you load your models into Studio, click the recalc normals button for all objects, multi select if neccesary. That will re-smooth the objects to the default 60' angle.

Before you export from Blender, select all objects and press the 'set smooth' button in the mesh Edit buttons. If you export as a .obj, the smoothing will be retained.
You can also apply a subsurf modifier in the mesh edit buttons, which is the same as 3DSMax's meshsmooth. Don't forget to triangulate the mesh too.

Hope this helps,

Tim.

Hey,

@Maximus3D - Thank you for a simple and effective solution! :) it works like a treat!

@Tim Ellis - Did all those steps previously for blender but just didn't select triangulate  Thanks for the help Tim :)
