I guess you already know that you can separate them by material IDs :)
(ok, you said didn't have the tools right now; forget it).

I use max but I guess other programs have similar tools; when importing check the square box "Use materials" The object will be assigned a multi-subobject material which has three materials inside (branches, young leaves and adult leaves) If you go to subobject level the faces have IDs assigned that match the sub-materials. In max you can select faces by their ID and detach as object or simply replace the sub-materials with maxwell materials.

wagurto, ....the app comes with some texture maps for the ivy. You can use those to create a clip mapped mxm with the Material Editor --- or use your own ivy maps.

Clipmaps how to .... in case you don't know.

thanks Ivox. What I understand is that I need to create a Mxm and the apply it to hte leaf con the model right? Do the leaf will keep their map coordinates? cam someone share the Mxm material?

Well ..... It's basically gets mapped as planar --so, you don't really have to worry about the coordinates. Just select one leaf and all the leaves should light up as selected.

At least that's how it's working out of the rhino plug .....

I'd suggest making the mxm yourself ..... it's quite easy ---- check out that thread above.
