My work has decided that they can't afford an in-house 3d visualiser anymore! :(

So any work out there would be appreciated!

I know it's not the place to advertise, but I have the meeting this afternoon, and just feel the need to put some feelers out.

I apologise if this is inappropriate use of the forum.

Thank you!

Hopefully they may decide against this later on.

A big thanks to Maxwell too for giving me the confidence and folio to go out there with!

I have been tempted to go freelance. But I need to take time out to set this up.

I need to learn how to build a website etc..

I will do it, but my company has forced my hand into doing something quickly! Wife and Mortgage to worry about and all that comes with it.

Look here:
http://opensourcecms.com/

dont use html/flash: they need too much time to upgrade the site and html don't look at the same mode over different OS and browser

making the website is the least important... we can help you with that

what you need is clients.... let your company know that if they need more 3d work that you'll be able to help them as subcontractor.

starting is pretty hard, more if you don't have any income :(

good luck

Well, if the mortgage becomes too much for you, here's what you can do:

Save up enough money to buy the biggest refrigerator you can find. Then, throw away the refrigerator, and live in the shipping box..... Problem solved! :P

I'm sure you'll land on your feet. You just gotta get out there and sell yourself. Hope everything works out for you!

hey d7mcfc,
i'm sorry about this situation you are in at the moment, i really understand what you are feeling...... so, here is a small text from someone who really helped me some years ago, without even knowing that i exist!!!

"Set up your goals, work focused, learn what is important to get you there, and be humble to the people you meet." You never know when they might help you, or vice versa. Don't give up, try hard and aim high, because people WILL take you down. Don't see the hard times as just "hard times", smile, because you know it's a time for something better to come. Stay true to what you believe in." By Seung Ho - http://henrik.cgcommunity.com/

Wish you all the luck in the future,
best regards,
nuno

Hi there d7mcfc, truly sorry to hear of your situation. And boy does that sound familiar, too.

I went freelance for basically the same reason. The architectural firm I was a designer for was starting to have money problems and I knew it wouldn't be long before they'd have to let me go. I also decided to get the jump on them a take the risk to go freelance, and very happy I did. It was definitely hard going the first couple of years, but again, it was so worth it in the end (if that helps any).

FYI, your timing might be pretty good here, as I'm going to start outsourcing some of my modeling work and will be looking for some quality freelancers. I've got quite a bit of stuff needing to be worked on, mostly large residential house (8000 to 40000+ SF monsters), and of course with a lot of detail. Looking at some of your work here you look like you've got a good eye for detail (which I find very important). So you could be the right person for this.

Here's a couple example of basically what I'm looking for...

Here's one I've started on this last week (the 40,000 SF monster, lord help me...)

Anyhow, drop me a line if your interested.

P.S. Anyone else interested, please feel free to contact me as well. I am also looking for full time help if anyone happens to live in the west suburbs area of Chicago (or interested in moving there). 3D modeling/illustration and also web/java/flash development person.
