I'm more of a spectator now but if 1.2 doesn't do partial transparencies I'm thru with it. When the other guys saw that people were complaining about greyscale transparencies they coded it for their customers within days.

It does now; the two layers method: One with the solid part, the other ghost and weightmapped with a greyscale map.

The dual-layer ghost system does appear to be working correctly now - this is the first time I've actually tested it. I had gotten so used to converting my greyscale trans-maps to high resolution halftone B&W uncompressed TIFFs, I had completely forgotten to try it out when this release came out.

The problem with the older version was that using this method, you could not see an object behind another that both used the dual system. Although I still consider the dual-layer system and work-around, at least it is a functional work-around.

Here's a quick test using the Ghost layer technique. As you can see, it is working correctly now.

Speaking one month before the deadline about a thin line between tentative and real features??? Now this is a very interesting sentence which unintentionaly might be shedding alot of light on the current stage of developement. Either positive or negative.. can't really tell... but it makes the waiting whole lot more interesting ;)

I don't think she is talking about this particular moment but more generally.

Hi Nicole,

I don't know who is the twisted mind who gave you this task, to deliver news to the clients without telling anything new. But the news over RealFlow for months that was a good trick.

Here is my advice, maybe you should wait for 1.2 to be released and then send the newsletter  .

The fact is, NL could still get benefit from a more open communication. I would certainely not be happy if I ear of improvements of maxwell and get user interface improvement of the studio thing that I did not pay for, and don't need, like a huge majority of maxwel user. So tell us what is coming and listen to what we say, that would be my ultimate advice to NL.

By the way you have done a great job with this software, keep up the good work (there are also pleasures to listen to what we have to say  )

If this is good and "common sense" advice, then how come no software developer I know of follows this good advice?

100%correct, Mihai, but still a small video with some new capabilities would be nice. Also, if you visit a very good new program still in beta, named MoI www.moi3d.com, you will see that the programmer works exactly the way we are talking about here... He gives info about the upcoming improvements and he listens to all users for wanted features and I think this is a very nice thing. Just because no big company does that, it doesn't mean it's wrong.
