Hmm interesting, if they ever were to go through with it, it think a commercial distro like SuSe would be a good choice. Selling pre-built systems whose components are known, i don't see the hardware support being the issue they make it to be.

I think that Dell would have a lot of legal issues if they were to consider this. Dell was one of the very first computer companies to sign an agreement with MS regarding pre-installation of Windows on their computers. I'm willing to bet that they have a pretty un-breakable contract with MS that would likely bankrupt them if they tried to offer a competitive OS......

And I agree. Most peripheral companies offer Linux drivers now for most of their hardware. I don't think that this would really be an issue.
