Please post here anything else (not relating to Maxwell technical matters)

I just got my second HD installed and XP64 fired up.
One indicator shows 3.25 gigs of my 4 and another shows 3.4 of 4.
I just did some operations that topped out at 3.3 gigs of RAM and everything went smoothly.
:)
My question is, what can I do to get all 4 gigs recognized? Do I need to do something like the 3 gig switch?
Thanks in advance for any help.
I'll be installing Maxwell soon. Very soon......

Which are those two indicators? In the "General" tab of system properties (control panel > system or MyPC properties) you should see the amount of RAM installed.
Some Motherboards needed a BIOS update to recognize more than 3GB. Check the latest updates of your MOBO BIOS at the manufacturer's site... and update with care.

I must set an option at the BIOS, something like "paging memory ...".

Hi guys, thanks for responding.
In the "General" tab, I see 3.25 and with Task Manager I see 3.4.
I installed the upgraded bios available from the MOBo mfg. And everything seems to work fine.
Thanks, Micha, I'll bump around and see what I can see.
C4D 64 bit rocks! I'm not really doing anything with Maxwell that pushes the limits, so I don't see any changes there. With 64 bit Maxwell, I would probably push the envelope.
Thansk again for the tips.

Just discovered an advantage with XP 64 and the current Maxwell......
I can render at higher resolution.
4000x2800 is cooking at 2.95 gigs with no other apps running.
I couldn't do that in XP 32 bit.

glypticmax,

On my system bios (asus p5b motherboard) there is a chipset option called 'memory remap' - enabling this allows xp32 to see 3gb of ram (which is what I did until I switched to xp64)

Not sure what the switch is in your bios?

Hi Scott,
I haven't played with my MOBO Bios. But that is on my list, when I'm feeling brave.
I did set the 3 gig switch in XP 32 bit, and have had it cook at just over 3 gigs using multiple apps. But never over 2 gigs for just one app. An MS paper comparing XP 32 and XP 64 bit, says even with the 3 gig switch set, the 32 bit version can not access more than 2 gigs per app or per operation. I have not had a single app access this much RAM in XP 32.
I actually booted and modeled in Rhino while this particular render was going on. That kicked the RAM useage up to 2.9-3.1.
The real treat so far is C4D 64 bit. My high poly displacements are a breeze now.
