I'm trying to install a fresh copy of windows xp in a
friend's computer because right now it is full of
adwares, spyware, and every other malicious thing that
you can imagine.

Anyway, I got a new Hard Drive for the computer (so I
can later backup the information from the previous hd)
and decided to install winxp (I think it's service
pack 1 as the OS was bought in 2002!).

(THE PROBLEM)
The computer came with an Ethernet-card built in the
motherboard (Intel board) and it's not recognized by
windows!
I would like to connect on-line and have windows
search for the drivers but I can't get on-line with my
network card disable.
I try running Linux in the computer (Ubuntu) and the
OS had no problem recognizing the network card... WHo gives!
Questions?
Is it possible to install the network-card by
extracting some of files from the previous HD? (if
that is possible I would probably need the
sound-drivers too.... but I haven't test the speakers
to see if that is the case )
What are my other options?
I don't know which intel motherboard is inside the
computer as I didn't see any special # printed
anywhere. Not to mention the pc was homebuilt.

You should have a CD came with your motherboard but in this case I think it's already lost.
So, please tell us what's written on your motherboard, its model I mean.

Sure! It's very easy ;) Don't hesitate to write any information you see on the board.

I got the drives.... I'll see if it wants to install now

Anyway, is it possible to copy the specific files from the previous hd, if I had no other choice?

Don't worry, it will accept them since there are plenty of official drivers for a wide range of operating systems including yours.

From the old HD you could add it as drive D: and have the new installation searching the d:\windows folder. AFTER you installed antivirus software and that's not such a good idea anyway...
