They are quite detailed indeed. I can make a close-up of the caustic pattern overnight, then upload it here in morning!

Or do you mean they are TOO detailed?

thank you boris for the new test !
yes, looks really not bad.

for my personal taste i would go with a little reduced pattern like the first one you have posted, but maybe that´s just me.

cheers

Hehe...I'm happy you rendered a close-up because the pattern is very beautiful. Well, yes I must confess I meant they are too detailed and focused. It doesn't mean what you've done is not correct, it's just not very common. I thought maybe you can design it more close to something we all used to see.

Hehe :)
They are too detailed to me too, but i like the effect :)
I am experimenting with softer caustic patterns now.

Nice work Boris!

I'm playing now with some know brand of lighting fixtures to adapt a huge library of "ready to render" models with only one maxwell material. Stay tuned! (My preview renders look very promising :D )

Beautiful caustics Kurt!

In the image you've got in the gallery you show the geometry of the lamps. The red square is the emitter and is pointing up, right?

I've made a few tests with Kurts lamps (thanks Kurt)

First I used the second one from the right:

Image

I thought that the way the lamps spread the light to the sides was a bit unrealistic, so I added a small cone in the bottom of the light, underneith the area that works as the emitter and this was the result:

Image

I used this modifed lamp, and added a bit of roughness to the reflector to get a more diffuse lightcone, and finally the lightcone is abit less wide.

Image

I know that this is not the way a real lamp looks like, its just a way of achieveing the look I want. (only 30 min render)

Yes, the red square is the emitter, and its only 2-3 mm small

here is another test rendering (20 min)
Geometry of spotlight is shown below.

Emitter is the tiny blue spot (3x3 mm), and its facing upwards inside the reflector.

So, is this a known issue?
